However, fail again for assuming that the problem is with the reader's comprehension and not with your own writing abilities. 1. That was more than four years ago so maybe I've changed my mind. 2. Darth Vader replacing Adam is different in many important ways from the Spaghetti Monster replacing God so you're logic failed again. I'm sure I do not need to spell this out.
i figured you werent being serious with me,but you were being serious about something else, so it made sense to assume. PM has gotten me used to 3 syllable arguments being common, sorry but... but... people arent allowed to change their mind over the years! politics has taught me that this makes you an unreliable flip flopping commie! yeah i figured it wouldnt quite count, but you must admit, your post i found is about as close to a perfect "AHA!!" moment as you can find in this life. Even if there were a double standard (based on a more than four year old post) this would not invalidate my previous points. If you believe that it would you are illogical and we have nothing further to discuss. 2. The meaning of the Darth Vader picture is not blasphemous. Unlike the Spaghetti Monster, Darth Vader is not an icon of pop atheism. Also, and most obviously, the image of God the Father has not been altered. Further, the "joke" is the irony of the fact that God is Vader's Father. In no way does that image seek to ridicule theists, insult and/or deny God, or promote pop atheism. 3. If you really don't understand the purpose of the Spaghetti Monster meme in popular atheism I really don't believe it is my place to explain it. Richard Dawkins book The God Delusion may be of interest. The purpose and meaning of the Spaghetti Monster is similar to Dawkin's Invisible Pink Unicorn.
Eloquently put! Resurrexi
Zoroastrianism is a very interesting, and, in my opinion. In my opinion, it has more truth in it than any other pre-Christian religion besides Judaism.
I'm sure we all deserve a little mocking. The Most Holy God, however, does not. Read the Old Testament - blasphemy was taken very seriously; in fact it was considered the most serious sin.
and its mocking GodS, not just God.and mostly the role religion often takes in lawmaking, in a society which has ostensibly seperated church and state. Generally, it's not believers in Thor, Zeus, or Quetzacoatl that they have a beef with. And I don't know what this horrible religious lawmaking is that you're talking about. Laws against abortion? Laws allowing prayer in public places? If anything, I'd say our legal system has become adverse to religion. The whole radical-secularist idea that religion or even religious morality cannot have any presence in the public sphere is bogus anyways.
i dont mind being made fun of. i see it as fairly good natured. beleiving in God is no buffer against being an idiot, and certainly some of the people being mocked for it deserve it.
What? You're telling me that among the many millions of religious beleivers, there's some idiots? (As opposed to those wonderful atheists, who are beyond any mockery.) However, crap like the "Flying Spaghetti Monster" specifically mocks God (or belief in Him). Whatever else people may deserve mockery for, belief in God is not among them. I don't get all shocked at that kind of juvenile croutons, but I don't think it's anything a Christian should be condoning or participating in. Jesus_lol
Gotta love that when people dislike a picture, they give the negative points to the guy who talked about it instead the the guy who posted it.
You are surprised that american athiests have the most issue with a religion that is practised by most of the country around them, and not gods that no one has really worshipped for centuries, and in different countries besides? if Quetzalcoatl was still around im pretty sure people would take issue with all of the human sacrifices in his name. i was just telling what it is, not what i think. besides, stuff like intelligent design replacing evolution in schools, and modified history being taught in schools (hello, texas) would count in my mind as religion overstepping its bounds in law. Belief in God is mocked all the time here when it is beleived that they are doing it wrong.
