Brother Adam
Where does the Bible say we can become adopted children of God through prayer
Mrs. Bro. Adam
It doesn't.
Brother Adam
Well there ya' go Now you know why Catholics baptize infants, and why its in the Bible. To be initially saved means being liberated from evil. In order for that to happen we must become adopted children of God. Prayer doesn't do that. Demons can make requests of God (pray- to ask), but that doesn't mean their heaven bound. In baptism we die and rise with Christ and are freed from the consequence of original sin. The only way to get away from this is to consider mormonism.
Mrs. Bro. Adam
Ok...but where does it say, or how can one come to the conclusion that infant baptism is saving the child? Where does it say that baptism saves anyone?
Brother Adam
Galatians 3:27 (KJV) For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Ephes. 5:26 (KJV) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, Col. 2:12 (KJV) Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 1 Peter 3:18,21 (KJV) For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit ...The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Mrs. Bro. Adam
Ok...only one of those says that it 'saves'. Being baptized into something does not equate to salvation (at least not in the English language). If baptism saves us, then why was the Eunich told to repent and be baptized? Repent: the act of confessing and receiving faith
Brother Adam
Being baptized into something does not equate to salvation (at least not in the English language).
Bingo. I would say "at least not in the 21st century Reformed Protestant KJV English Language"
If baptism saves us, then why was the Eunich told to repent and be baptized? Repent: the act of confessing and receiving faith
Repenting is the act of confessing. Baptism is the act of recieving the faith. It is the work of God in man. Galatians 3:27 (KJV) For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Mrs. Bro. Adam
Is it receiving the faith, or is it showing how we receive the faith?
Brother Adam
It is the action of being sealed with the mark of Christ forever. Faith alone does not save a person.
Mrs. Bro. Adam
You're right...It's faith, and the good deeds (works) that keep the faith alive. Unless I haven't been reading the Bible correctly.
Brother Adam
cool. So we agree?
Mrs. Bro. Adam
That doesn't mean that baptism saves, though....
