I have seen this one Faustina though. I don't think anyone has mentioned it. It was pretty good. It's been a few years since I've seen it, so I can't remember it all that well. I remember it was pretty serious though. There are some clips of it on youtube .. oh and it's in Polish with English subtitles ..

I've heard great things about Faustina from another Sister I know that has seen it. She highly recommended it to me. I'd like to see that one... makes me wonder if Netflix has it. If so, I might be tempted to get a free trial just to see some of these nun movies.

Also, I know it's not a "nun" movie, but how about a "friar/monk" movie? -- Padre Pio: Miracle Man

That's one of my favorite "saint" movies ever. I found it extremely edifying, and a really great look into a religious vocation lived to it's fullest. Beautiful witness.

My university's vocal department performed Suor Angelica my freshman year -- I got to play the little piccolo "bird" call during one of the early scenes. Hehehe. :D

Then last year while living in Brooklyn, I played the bird part for another opera company and sang as a "choir nun". It was pretty fun. Beautiful libretto!

Though, like you said, not very uplifting. I can only hope that she had true contrition before she finally died, begging help from Our Lady.... that part is heart-wrenching. Saaaalva me! Saaaaalva me! :sadder:

lol. I totally ponder the state of the souls of fictional characters when they die...haha

I looked around for some movies for you, but I found nun.

(Sorry about the bad pun...I guess you could call it a habit.)

(Was that apology thinly veiled?)

(I have a hard time discerning where to stop with my jokes.)

(Ok, I'm done. Here's my vow to you, no more nun puns.

Before I go, do you want some of my new fat-free candy? They're Caramel-lites.)

On the front of the invitations, it said, "A party like 'Nun' other!" I found it amusing. My husband thought it was lame.

So, I didn't really like Therese, and I wouldn't watch it, personally...heh.

If you like opera at all, there's Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites (Dialogues des carmélites), which is not a happy story per se--it ends with nuns going to the scaffold during religious persecutions of the French Revolution. (It's okay that I "ruin the ending" because you really should know what's going on in an opera before you watch it.) I actually haven't seen the whole thing, just some bits and pieces, but the music is gorgeous, though slightly more modern than one might be used to, and the story is inspiring. There should be DVD recordings of it that you could find.

Suor Angelica is another opera about nuns (this time by Puccini), but I think it's where a disgraced pregnant girl goes and joins a convent, or something...probably not so uplifting.

I'm not a huge Therese fan, either, but it's one of my sister's favorite, which I think is mostly because of how much she loves Therese...:idontknow:

However, I haven't seen anyone mention Miracle of St. Therese yet. I have it but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. But I've heard it's really good actually, and much better than the new one on her. Steven Greydanus gave it an A+ (while Therese got a B and Therese from 1986, though I've heard it's strange, got a B+)

Just watched it the other day, and it was wonderful!! Highly recommend it!! :nunpray:
