Ef Ordinary Of The Mass Booklet

PLEASE HELP ME!!

I'm going to my first EF Mass (I know, I'm a late bloomer?)

I want to continue going to the EF Mass whenever it happens to be available, since we are moving soon.

I read from a certain website that you can find "printable online sources for the Ordinary of the Mass" anywhere -- that's certainly not true. While the Ordinary of the Mass is readily available online, there is certainly not a PRINTABLE version that I can find easily (who wants to lug around 30 pages to Mass?!?!? I mean, come on!!!)

Someone has to have a resource out there I can use! Do you have any idea where I can find one?! It would have to be free -- my husband is unemployed, money is tight, and we can't afford that sort of thing right now. Maybe if it's like $2 ... but with shipping --- it would cost about $10! So I'd really like the free route right now ...

I know they are usually provided for when you attend an EF Mass, but I would like to have one just in case.

Also, I know I could theoretically transfer the online sources into a Word or other sort of document and make my own booklet ... unfortunately, I've done things like that before, and it takes a HUUUGE amount of time, time that I really don't have right now at all!

THANK YOU SO MUCH, I really, really, really appreciate it, and my child in utero thanks you also!

If it's your first one, you really might just like to go without a missal the first time... That way you can watch it and see the differences in form before trying to read everything. I think that will make it easier to follow in the future when you go.

With that said, I know how you Dominicans are... ;) so I'm sure there is something you can print, but you may just have to copy and paste it into a Word document and print that way or something. Is it going to be a low mass, high mass or a solemn high mass? (Low Mass is quiet, no singing; High Mass is sung by the priest and a schola; Solemn High Mass is sung and has a priest, deacon and a subdeacon, as well as more ceremonies that are unique to it.)

You'll want to find out that first before printing something out, to make sure you get the right stuff.

When do you need it by? I could photocopy the ordinary parts of my missal for you and mail it to you if you wanted... it would be at least 30 pages though... the ordinary in my missal takes about 40 pages...

I dunno how printable this is. Sort of a last moment question. Might have to get up early and do some fiddling to get it to work. Sorry! Important stuff you should have on hand though:

credo, gloria, kyrie, agnus dei,

et cum spiritu tuo
Deo gratsias

response to proclaimation of gospel : "Gloria tibi domine", and "laus tibi (O) Chrtiste"

the prayer after the audible "orate fratres" during the offertory:

Suscipiat Dominus sacrificium de manibus tuis ad laudem, et gloriam nominis sui, ad utilitatem quoque nostram, totiusque Ecclesiae suae sanctae.

The preface:

r. et cum spiritu tuo
r. habemus ad dominum
r. dignum et justum est.

Pre-reception of communion
Domine non sum dignus ut intres sub tectum meum; sed tantum dic verbo et sanabitur anima mea

I hope this is clear enough

If your parish is at all nice, you might be able to borrow one of their missals to take home for awhile. When I started at the Latin Mass, the priest handed me one and said to keep it until I could get my own. All of the very special occasions (Solemn Masses) had their own handouts on the day as well.

I agree that the first few times, it might be best to just observe and get the feel of it. The Latin Mass is very contemplative and although it is great to be able to participate with the responses, the server will do all of that as well, so at least in the beginning, you can relax and not worry too much about keeping up.

The Latin Mass is beautiful so you should enjoy it very much.

Thank God that He opened your eyes as well. :) The forma extraordinaria of the Holy Mass is much, much more true to the liturgical tradition of the Latin Rite.

Ben

Thanks for the responses, everyone - I appreciate it!

I do know many of the responses in Latin, from having attended many Latin Novus Ordo Masses, especially when I was in the convent. So I am grateful for that, plus having a grasp of the Latin language from high school Latin and learning a lot of Latin in the convent.

I have also watched many EF Masses, so I do know what they are like, that's why I'd like a Missal to follow along with. (And yes, zunshynn, you got that Dominican part right! I guess there's no taking a Dominican out of a Sister Servant!) ;) There's no way I could afford a regular Missal, that's why I just wanted a little booklet I could keep in my purse for the Ordinary. When it comes to the antiphons, readings, etc, for the certain day, I have found many different websites in which I can print those out or at least study them beforehand, so I'm not really worried about getting a Missal (which includes all that) quite yet.

I could go any Sunday; I just found out there is an EF Mass in our diocese (I'm new to this diocese, which is rather liberal, so I didn't know it, nor did I expect it!) that is not far away, and so my husband and I (and my baby in utero!) can go whenever, probably next Sunday.

I've wanted to do this for a long, long time. If I could go to the EF Mass every day, I certainly would ... I am so sick of the lack of reverence, and some out-and-out heresy that I see in some of the NO Masses at parishes. Thankfully, our parish is pretty good -- but then again, even if they're "pretty good", it means often singing those annoying hymns from 1972 and after ... and it's starting to make my blood boil. I think my own spirituality much better fits the EF.

It's something I really want to raise our son knowing and loving, and I want to start now! :)

Thanks for the link! :D This is the exact site I was working with!!!

It's definitely not in printable form, but I've been starting, slowly, a Word document where I'm trying to nicely fit everything into a booklet. Unfortunately, Word doesn't have a "booklet" template, and I CERTAINLY don't have the time to make a booklet template myself, but I could try and make a one-sided page booklet with the info there. Hopefully it won't end up as 40 pages ... but, with a small enough font, I think I can make it work ;)

Too bad this site doesn't have a booklet PDF that I could print! Oh well, some things require hard work and sacrifice! ;)

I know what you mean with getting annoyed by the new liturgical music. Vatican II even states that Gregorian Chant should remain the liturgical norm. I've heard that music can have a positive effect on your baby, how much more will that be the case with sacred chant! ^_^

Ben

I know! That's why I often sing chants to my baby in utero - my favorites are "Ecce Virgo," "Ave Verum," the Dominican "Salve Regina," "Crux Fidelis," "Veni Sancte Spiritus," "Jesu Dulcis Memoria," "Regina Caeli," ... and some others that I can't think of right now ;)

It IS the liturgical tradition of the Latin Rite. I am getting on the ground floor of starting a new Latin Mass parish in our diocese.
