Does Anyone Here Use Ancestry.com?

Some parts are free. You can sign up for a monthly plan for 12.95 a month, though. So, it is a tad pricey. But, you can also do a 14 day trial to see how you like it. Just make sure you cancel after the trial is over so they don't start charging you.

No thanks. I'll stick to Ebay and NewEgg. Don't need to buy any more ancestors. Not particularly proud of the ones I already have.

Out of curiosity, who runs Ancestry.com? I have heard and it may not be accurate, that often times Mormons operate these sites so that they can "baptize" the dead? I have always been careful of this type of site for that reason. Anyone know if this is true? I would be interested looking into my genealogy more.

why would the religion matter? I am part of it and the information is very accurate, though you tend to stumble upon inconsistancies at times...

My cousin's husband used to use it all the time until it started telling him he was related to half a dozen nigh mythical kings and Thor.

When you get back beyond 500 years or so, it is best to double check the information by other sources. I saw a family tree once where someone traced themselves back to Adam and Eve. I believe through Joseph of Arimathea.

It would matter if you did not want to help them "baptize" your ancestors.

I'd like to see them try. It's like putting sprinkles on the ice cream I ate yesterday - just because they want to doesn't mean they can.

Ancestry is good for the census records, but that's part of the payed section of the site. Hence, I use other sources.

Erm, was it me?

And yep it was, the free edition where you start relying on other people's input that it accepts as fact. He spent over a year tracing things on there before giving up after discovering his was a son of Asgard.
