Are My Kids Weird?

My sister says my kids are weird  ................they "decorated" outside for Easter Sunday with side walk chalk. We have an egg hunt every year that my sister and her kids come to. The kids decorated with eggs, bunnies, crosses, "He is Risen" signs and my personal favorite...they made a sign for our Mary statue reading "Mother Mary" with a hand drawn picture of the Sacred Heart. They sang "Jesus remember me when You come into Your kingdom" and "Mary, Oh Mama" while they were "hunting". All this was their plan for celebrating the day. The planned it for days before Easter and loved every min of the day. My sister sent me an email saying, "Gosh, Sarah, the kids are getting a little weird since you've been homeschooling."
I want to cry. It's one thing to say bad things about me, I'm a grown up, I can handle it but MY KIDS. That's another story altogether.
Please pray for me that I can let go of this anger right now. I don't know if I should even respond to this or not. At this point I would probably just be really ugly with her so I'm going to have to lighten up a little first.
:sadder:

Your kids are NOT weird!!! That is one of the sweetest things I've ever heard! Your kiddos are so precious for thinking of doing all that decorating. Just because another persons kids may be more concerned with the egg hunt than with what Easter is all about (not that your nieces and nephews are, but I know alot of kids who that would apply to) doesn't make your kids weird.

From the sound of it your little angels aren't concerned with candy and boys/girls/dating, toys, etc. like many kids in schools are. For that you should be thankful. They are still innocent and PURE.

As for your sister.... I don't know what to say... I will pray for her. And for you that you handle this situation in the best possible way so that it doesn't turn ugly. God Bless you!

Yup, your kids are wierd.

By the standard of the world, your kids are freaks. I mean, they should be singing "Dirty" by Christina Aguilera or "Slave" by Brittany Spears. They should be drawing bling bling, and male genitalia, and dirty words. They should be cynical about Easter eggs and not have a clue what the real meaning of Easter is. They should be whiny and spoiled and cry because they didn't get enough candy in their basket. They should wear little versions of the clothes prostitutes wear.

I mean, really, that's what's "normal" so yes, your kids are wierd.

Now, let's join together in thanking God that you have such wierd kids, becuase normal is scary. Really, really, scary.

Mom25,

We often criticize the things that convict us. Maybe your sister saw the difference between your kids and hers, or maybe she was convicted by the sweet simpleness of childlike faith.

peace...

mom25,
God Bless You and your family. Thank God that your kids are wierd. My mom homeschools the youngest four in my family (she did not homeschool the first three) and catches no end of flack from her brothers and sisters (as well as society in general). It is very distressing but, as I am sure you realize, it is worth every second. Never forget the words of Christ to his apostles: "Blessed are ye when men shall revile you, and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for My
sake."--Matt. 5:11.

I am proud of you. What a good mother you are. My husband gets uptight when on Easter Sunday we are so excited about the egg hunting, gifts, and "Easter Bunny" that we forget the real reason it is Easter Sunday. I can say as a mother of that it is wonderful that you are teaching your children what the true meaning of Easter is. My advice to you on your sister..... Ask her " What is Easter Sunday really about? Isn't the story really about how we rejoice in how Jesus rose from the dead? You are not weird, only a real mother teaching what some mothers never give a second thought about. The true meaning of Easter and sometimes that just doesn't seem "cool". Well it is.

God Bless a mother like you. I could learn a few lessons from you, and your sister too. Thank you.

If "Being weird" means being in love with Jesus and Mary and doing the things they did I'd rather be weird than normal.

Yup, if they're singing "Mary Oh Mama," they MUST be weird!! ;)

Sarah, your kids sound adorable! (I can't wait to meet them!) Honestly, I want a family JUST LIKE YOURS when I get married!! That's the perfect Easter that I have planned for my family. Don't listen to the world when it tries to get you to be 'normal'. The 'abnormaility' of God is more marvelous than anything the world can offer!!! :D

1 Corinthians Chapter 3
8 Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," 20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."
To be wierd means that the world has rejected you. Your family sounds holy are heroic!
