I did... Joanna... for a couple of reasons:
1. it's a version of Joan (as in "of Arc")
2. it's the feminine form of John (as in "The beloved disciple")
3. it's what our baby's name would have been if he'd have been a girl
4. it's the name of one of the women at the tomb

I didn't officially have one, but unofficially it's Joan also, as in St. Joan of Arc.

My confirmation name was Joseph.......for several reasons:

1.) It is my real name
2.) I was engaged at the time, and I thought what better husband to model myself after than Joseph.
3.) I also hoped to be a father some day(which will be very soon now) and I cannot think of a better father model than the foster father of Jesus.
4.) He was the earthly protector of Mary and the infant Jesus.

Mine is Rose after St Rose of Lima.

She is a special saint to the people of Peru, along with St Martin - I read somewhere that they were companions....

My closest friend, who was also my sponsor, is Peruvian, so it's wonderful to have that connection.

When we first started going to our parish church we were utterly amazed to see a statue of St Martin there, so there was a direct link with Peru. It's very unusual to see a statue of St Martin in UK churches, he's not so well known here - we have only found two so far! I like to think St Rose would be pleased....

St Rose was a Dominican.
Dominicans seem to be having a significant impact in my life.....and when ever I have asked St Rose to pray for my friend or myself, she must have graciously done so as God has always answered the prayers!

It was a delight to choose her name for my confirmation name.
Casimir. It was my dad's name.

*edit* OOPS - didn't know this was for converts. Please delete.
I'm not a convert either, but I figured I could still share.

I was not given that option, but I wanted St. Augustine of Hippo. Two reasons...

He experienced a radical conversion, and I can relate to that, and also, it rhymes with my first name...Justin St. Augustine.

St. Dominic de Guzman:

- he recieved the Rosary from Our Lady.
- waged war on heresy (Cathars, Waldensians, and Albigensians) without violence, but instead through vigorous and fevrent preaching combined with piety and humility (although his Order would eventually lead the Papal and Spanish Inquisitions).
-reformed clergy abuses by priests and bishops
-founded the Black Friars Order Preacher (Dominicans)
-like St. Anthony de Padua, he was the greatest Christian preacher who ever lived!

2 of my Baptist friends agreed that in another life, if I wasn't Catholic, I would definitly be some sort of televangelist or at least a preacher - the Dominicans foundation speaks volumes to me!

I chose Joseph for my confirmation name too. A saint that was so close to Jesus and Mary seemed like the best choice for me. And I need all the help I can get in serving them as I should!

Without violence, through preaching....Very cool. I still am struggling with some of my Protestant issues.. I still think the Waldensians have gotten a bit of a bad rap.
Feel free to e-mail me more information about them.

My name was Paul... I guess it comes from my love for his epistles' explanation of theology, his evangelization, and his ability to confront the secular world of his time and lead many to Christ. (As we need to do today).
