Guest wormwood
On Easter Sunday , my wife, even though she is Catholic (we are seperated) went to a Presbyterian Church with her concubine. She took there version of Holy Communion, was an active participant in the service and did not attend Mass that day. Needless to say I was aghast. I warned her that as a practicing Catholic, she is not permitted to receive communion in a Protestant denomination due primarily to there lack of belief in the Transsubstantiation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. Her reply was "That it's all the same, they use the same words as "we" do!" What penalties can be imposed under Canon Law for such an offense? From an ecclesiastical standpoint what can be done to stop this behaviour? The General Secretary of the Diocese is a close friend of mine and I informed him of this transgression by e-mail late last night. I am awaitng a reply today or tomorrow. But any guidance on this matter would be appreciated.
BLAZEr
It is not your responsibility to apply ecclesial penalties to your wife. In fact, maybe you should pray more for her. Offer some sacrifices for her. Do acts of charity for her. Give alms for her. All of those acts seem to me a bit wiser and more productive than emailing the General Secretary, who is quite frankly powerless to do anything about it.
