California roll
I LOVE non-fish sushi, especially California roll. I also like most sushi with cooked fish. I would eat more raw fish sushi, except that it is virtually impossible to find fish in Chicago that hasn't been frozen, so with raw fish sushi, at minimum, the texture isn't as good, and I worry about freshness. So, unless they come up with "smelt sushi," I avoid raw fish sushi in Chicago, except possibly from the very expensive places that fly fresh fish in from the coasts every day. (Of course, there IS the small problem that I can't afford to eat in those places.) As for "smelt sushi," I'm told that smelt is great when it's cooked over a fire right after it is caught, washed down with LOTS of beer. But even though Lake Michigan is much cleaner than it was, I think I will avoid raw fish from Lake Michigan. Marie-Therese
Fish sushi is teh awesomez. Then again, pretty much all sushi is teh awesomez. One of my favorite meals on earth is a plate of tuna, raw salmon, yellowtail and unagi (eel) all done nigiri style (slice of fish on top of rice). Pair that with a bowl of seaweed salad and a bowl of edamame. Add a cold bottle of Kirin and YUM. I prefer nigiri to rolled sushi as a general rule. Nihil Obstat
I've never met a piece of sushi that I didn't like. I'm still working on wasabi, and getting there.

Also, as usual, I am not cool. Even though I know the RIGHT way to eat the ginger, I don't. I like putting a piece of ginger on the sushi and eating it in one bite (or two messy ones). I realize that I have probably broken an important rule of the Magisterium, particularly since I know the right way but don't follow it, so just add it to my slate. All my life, I have never been cool. So, I have decided that I am TOTALLY cool in my uncoolness. In fact, I have reached the HEIGHT of uncoolness--and that takes hard work!!!! I will reward myself with something totally nerdy and uncool.
