Laetitia--Are you sure that you're not secretly a Benedictine? Okay, the Benedictine Sisters' habits were mostly black (personally, I couldn't wear black all the time, no matter how important the meaning of a black habit), BUT the Sisters in those photos were wearing BLACK socks with their sandals. No Dominican fashion "faux pas" of wearing WHITE socks with their sandals. My mother would have something to say about that!

 I know without a doubt that I am not called to be a Benedictine. Unfortunately, "Ora et Labora" is totally not my cup of tea. Besides the beautiful tradition of chant, I have no Benedictine inclinations or desires. :seehearspeak:

Actually, I think I'm a closet Franciscan, with Ignatian tendencies. Heeee. :ninja:

I am almost embarrassed to admit this, but there was a brief time in college where I totally sported white socks with sandals rather boldly.

And even now... if someone were to give me a pair of those knee high brightly colored striped/patterned toe socks, I'd wear 'em with glee.

:bigshock:

I know, I know... where's my paperbag?

Found it. :paperbag:

:D

However, I must confess, if I could choose my "footwear fashion" of a religious habit and order, I'd go barefoot. Or sandals without socks. ;) Any day! (Well, I suppose unless I was in true danger of frostbite and having body parts amputated. That seems to be crossing the line of "prudence", imho. )

You sound like a closet Franciscan completely! Poor Clares Colettines, I know, go barefoot. LOL!

Actually, I would like to go barefoot but wearing socks. That way I could slide down the corridor on the polished wood floorboards. :) I think the Discalced Carmelites should really be discalced and not just half-calced

If we were choosing religious orders based on habits instead of spirituality, I would probably end up a Poor Clare since I love their habits and their barefeet. Even the Carmelite sandals are too much for me. I tried on a Poor Clare habit once (one was donated as a pattern for us to use in St Louis but before it was taken apart, we all tried it on) and it felt so good! Very simple and comfortable tunic while also being attractive. And their veil is to die for. Sigh.... Who wants to start a Carmelite Poor Clares and let me join?? :)

You got me dreaming of a Carmelite Nun sliding on hardwood floors like Tom Cruise in "Risky Business." LOL!

I once got to try on a real Carmelite habit. While in the convent we did a play on the life of St. Therese and needed Carmelite habits. So, one of the Sisters called up a nearby Carmel and told them our situation -- aaaand the Prioress let us borrow their second habits (and yes, even VEILS)! I couldn't believe it. (Though I was actually surprised in the shortness of their veils.)

To say the least... while wearing that habit, I think I felt holier. I thought it was pretty cool. I love the brown, black, and white color scheme. Heehee.

However, I must admit, I would love to wear the habit of the Poor Clares of the Immaculate for a bit.

Haha this reminds me of the "if you could design your own habit" thread.

Definately bare feet. Or sandals with no socks. That way I'd be able to run around barefoot in the grass in the spring and summer. One of my favorite pastimes during warm weather.
Unfortunately my Franciscan community to be doesn't have full length habits, so no socks or stocking isn't really appropriate. :(
but I have a plan.
;)

Well, it has been busy here. The monks with the ornate hood coverings were from Clear Creek, there were two Baptistine Monks, several FSSP and ICK dudes, 5 zillion seminarians, and Fr. Valentine Young, and a Carmelite Monk.

Triddy, do you know what community the Carmelite monk was from?
