Does anyone know if there have been any studies regarding inedia in Catholic saints? I find claimed miraculous occurrences very intriguing, but this is the first time I've heard of this particular occurrence.

Dude, here's the not saint way of doing things.

"Hey scientists, I am really really holy, and I can fast for a long time, and do wonders and miracles, so I want you to come in and run a lot of tests, so that you can see exactly how amazing I am, and all the amazing things I can do... I mean God can do through me.

Dude, here's a saint way of doing things.

Countless cures at Lourdes where Saint Bernadette saw the beautiful Lady, the Immaculate Conception, in a random spring. She runs away and becomes a recluse in a convent where nobody can bother her, and dies a painful agonizing death while others were trying to take advantage of a great miracle.

I love Bernadette.

I never thought Yogi could go that long without food!

I am impressed, and I bet that Boo Boo is too.

Obviously we don't want go that route, but I'm a rationalist and I think it's reasonable to want some kind of verification before accepting these things. One thing I like about the Catholic Church is that there are standards in place before accepting miraculous claims as worthy of belief.

Does God not give graces to Jews, or Muslims or peoples of any other religious order?

There are plenty of people who survive miraculously, or have exceedingly special abilities that may not be Christians. Kind of silly to believe that God does not bless all of his children regardless of what religious path they follow.

Just my opinion.

I agree with your way of thinking on this...

There have been scientifically proven oddities in this world (i.e. a chinese man being able to channel enough energy into his hand to set a piece of paper on fire) which suggest that God does bless people, of all faiths, with special gifts. I really think that mankind has always sensed the Holy Spirit; whether or not they identified the HS correctly is a different story.

The Church has never denied that people are able to do many strange things through "channeling energy" but it also warns us that these powers do not come from God. It is very very dangerous to think that these types of things are coming from God because we are inviting other spirits and powers into our souls.
