Seems a bit Islamic to me.
Facing East is a Tradition much older than Islam. They don't face East, anyway, they face Mecca... but I know you knew that already. I don't necessarily understand the point though.

IgnatiusofLoyola
Apo--As usual, your wisdom has made things clear for me. Any issues or questions I might have about Catholicism are obviously due to the fact that I normally face West (toward California, yet!) while posting. I've never posted a prayer on Phatmass, and that's probably because I am facing West. However, this brings up an important theological issue. When I type, I sit propped up on a couch, with my laptop on my knees. So, while "I" face West, my laptop keyboard faces East. Since, on Phatmass, you don't hear my voice, but only see what I type, perhaps I AM facing East, since my keyboard, in effect, becomes a representation of me when I type. I think Pope Rural IX addressed this issue thoroughly. However, I have never been able to find a good translation of the writings of Pope Rural IX, so I can't look it up. In his absence, what sayest thou on this issue?
Interesting point--I'm not being sarcastic, I genuinely want to know what you think about this. (The stuff about which direction the keyboard is facing was silliness, obviously.) Do you stand when posting a prayer on PM? Is there a difference in the Catholic faith as to when you stand versus when you kneel when praying? I know that you kneel (on the ground?) for Adoration of the Eucharist. I was shocked to hear that some (many?) Catholic churches had taken out kneelers. For me, at least, it seems more natural to kneel when you pray, rather than stand. Also, can I assume that that it is okay to sit (or even possibly lie down) while praying if you have physical issues that prevent you from standing or kneeling for the period of time that you want to pray? (I'm not asking this as a theoretical question.) Thanks! Edited May 8, 2010 by IgnatiusofLoyola
