Judaism is Satanic?

So, a couple of weeks ago, a poster who will remain nameless was in TinyChat ranting on the errors of False Religions including Judaism. So it has been bugging me, given that poster continued on into orthodoxy and Sarah Palin ranting instead of answering my questions about the comment he made that Judaism is a False Religion sent by Satan. Actually, I just realized I saved a convo on AIM where I was telling a friend about this on AIM; here's the direct quotation "Judaism and Islam are lies from Satan for example".

So since that poster never felt the need to elaborate upon my questioning him, I wondered what PM thought of this statement?

Personally, I can't say something that was instituted by God is a lie of Satan. There was this Jewish carpenter once, He died on a cross for my sins and the sins of the entire world. He gave His life to create a new Covenant between God and man. With the New Covenant, I do hope for the Jewish people to turn to their Jewish Messiah, Jesus the Christ, of course. But that doesn't mean, in my opinion, that their religion that was instituted by God is a lie from Satan.

It was me, wasnt it? :weep:

No. But seriously, Biblical Judaism was instituted by God and was a good and holy thing. Rabbinic Judaism, which has abandoned the sacrifice in the Temple among other essentials of Judaism, is not the same religion. Jesus was not a Rabbinic Jew, he was a Biblical Jew. There is a huge difference.

As a Catholic I cannot see any other religion as being "from God" than the Catholic Church. Other religions have elements of truth, but we have the fullness of Divine Revelation. If non-Catholics find God it is through the Body of Christ, whether they know it or not, and it is not because of their own religion. Again, they can see elements of the truth through their own religion, but there is only one path to Divine Union.

No not you Alpha. :P

Although if we want to play semantics instead of facts, we could say Jesus was THE "Rabbinic Jew". He was a Jew, He was called Rabbi. But point taken. :)

Judaïsm itself is not a lie from satan. God had instituted the Mosaïc laws in preparation of the Truth. Now that the Truth has revealed Himself, the shadows of the past are no longer necessary. Those who cling to them and consciously deny the Christ of their God, are blinded by their sin and cannot enter into the Promise made to their fathers.

The Jewish religion is not evil, their denial of the Lord is.

Ben

can you change the poll choices?

btw as a former Messianic Jew, i'd be willing to discuss this more in-depth, but i don't understand why you'd take the ranting of someone in an internet chat seriously.

Oh, you are Jewish, Eustace? That is pretty interesting. I am always touched when a descendant of Abraham comes to the Truth.

yes, but only ethnically (my matralineage(sp?) is Ashkenazim Jew, mostly Polish... those of us who moved to the US during the pogroms are the only ones left, due to the holocaust (we found out that all of our relatives there died in it)). thank you, though. :)

Messianic Judaism = Protestant evangelicals who are (usually...) ethnically Jewish and want to hold onto their culture. any traditions they practice are entirely optional (except in the case of... *barf* ..."Jews for Jesus", which is an EXTREMELY pushy group that attempts to evangelize Jews via unethical means. they also claim that you have to follow Judaic law to be a Christian. i think St. Paul had a thing or two to say about that, though... ;)

man, there's a LOT i could say about this subject, like how i basically sacrificed my ethnic Jewish identity by converting... *sigh* i actually used to wear a yarmulke and a necklace of the "Messianic seal" (google image that) everyday. now it obviously wouldn't be appropriate. instead, i now wear a Franciscan cross that my sister bought for me in Assissi when she went to Italy years ago.

You should be able to change votes, or do you mean more options. Dunno if I can add them, but I can try. :)

And awesome posts by both Benn and Eustace. And the main reason I took it seriously, to an extent, is usually this person's opinion is decently valued on PM.

Awesome flag there! :) And yeah I've heard of Jews for Jesus before from a friend who was involved with them at one point. He liked to volunteer and lament the fact he wasn't Jewish. And your post about ethnic identity is a good reminder man, of how strong the pull of Christ is! :) I think we're all happy to have you aboard.

ugh, what a fanboy... i can't stand people like that... he probably listens to Matisyahu "religiously" (lolz), too...

thanks for what you said about ethnic identity... Judaism is pretty much a country club (oh, the irony...) and if you don't reject Christ, you're not accepted. it's rather depressing for me, too, because i really value my heritage and i want to take part in and identify with it, but that's not something i can do without confusing and tripping people up... or needlessly pissing them off. it's really upsetting...

In the Apocalypse of Saint John, Jesus says that people like you are the true Jews. A true child of Israël listens to the prophetic voice, like Abraham, Isaäk and Jacob did. The prophets had said that only a holy rest of Israël would be saved, and you are part of that. Like Saint Paul you should pray for your people, that they may convert, because before that, the day of the Lord will not come. Before Christ returns, the hardness that lies upon the hearts of the Jewish people must be removed, so that they may be redeemed and Sacred Scripture be fulfilled.

Last year I watched a few episodes on EWTN about a Catholic Priest who converted from Judaïsm, and he still used those prayer mantles (I don't know what the term is) and a few other Jewish customs. So, I think that's okay as long as you don't go back to things such as circumcision and pesach etc. because those things were prefigurations of the true cultus.

Pax Domini,
Ben
