Semper Catholic
That's a compliment more then anything. Not to fall into the cliche Dead Poets Society stuff, but a good professor who actually challenges you and respects you (and teaching) is hard to find, even at the best schools. I was pretty belligerent all through my college days, mainly because of the constant power point ambushes and monotone lectures, but I had two professors who taught extremely difficult classes and were excellent teachers, and they changed how I thought about a lot of things. Hassan
I couldn't meet with him. I got a B+ in the class. He's still going to be my honors thesis adviser I guess. I don't know. I got all B's and an A this semester. That's the worse I've ever done. Before that the lowest grade I had ever received was a B+. This semester I got a B in a class. I actually really like the class. It applied game/bargaining theory to war/conflict. I didn't bother to study for the final until right before the morning of, tried to get through it as fast as I could, and turned in the final paper so late that I received an automatic 18 point deduction and got a 73 on it. When I finally decided to do it the whole thing took me like two hours to do. It was just like a seven page paper on theoretical explanations for the durability of cease-fires or something. Had I turned it in on time I would have received a grade well above the class average. I also got a B- in the class for my thesis proposal. I basically showed up to class a half hour late every day, missed three or four classes (once a week class) bombed (like a D) the midterm (didn't bother to study) and turned in my proposal late. I guess my problem is that I can just almost totally tune out and still make above average grades. The weekend before, when I had a ten page paper for my Soviet class, a six page paper for the game/bargaining theory class, a fifteen page paper for my class on the occupation of east Germany, and a 15-20 page paper for my thesis proposal class due plus finals coming up the next weekend, I did nothing. I got super drunk with some friends and tried weed. I think on some level I wanted to crash and burn so I would be shocked back into motivation, but the problem is that I didn't crash and burn. I mean, I did for my usual level of performance and I brought my GPA way down (again, for me) but I'm still performing well above average. And I go to a reasonably good school. I mean its not like I go somewhere where grades are not a serious thing and there is no competition amongst the students. And not only am I not trying, I'm actively sabotaging myself. I think I'm just bored to be honest. Edited May 12, 2010 by Hassan

[/quote] Yeah, and that's why I feel bad about letting him down. I'll do great work for him for the thesis, but my concern is that I'm doing it out of guilt rather than for myself. Which probably isn't healthy. He's pretty funny though, on the final he told people to write clearly, "I'm gettin old and older by the minute". I think mostly his accent just makes everything he says sound wise or funny.
Jesus_lol
same issues here hassan.half dozing through classes and never studying or doing the homework, i would get the highest grade in the class on tests. below a 90 was dissapointing. eventually got into homework habit to bring my averages up. but once i got into college, i couldnt do it without a bit of studying, and i had never really done it before. teething problems i guess.
