CatherineM
I did have someone drop a host when I was an EM. I jumped down to grab it before anyone stepped on it. Fr. Paul saw me out of the corner of his eye, and was afraid I had fallen off the step and dropped my chalice. So when I turned around, he was right there, and grabbed it from me and put it in his mouth. After mass I had to point out the kid who dropped it and ran. She got a talking to.
dominicansoul
Story??
it involved a eucharistic "minister" who failed to see that the woman did not take the Host, put kept Him in her hands...I watched her intently, and when she was passing my pew, I got up to confront her about it...asking her out loud, to "swallow the host." ...at that point, she started to rush toward the door, and since my adreneline was pumping, I tried to grab her purse strap that she had wrapped around her (not on her shoulder) and in the process of doing that, I stumbled and kinda fell on top of her... so...it was more like I fell on her rather than tackle, but tackle sounds much better.. Jesus was not harmed in the process... several ushers came to the scene, and when they saw that she had not received the host, another EM came over to take the host from her, and the ushers started to interrogate her out in the foyer of the church...I'm not sure what happened after that...I just got up, straigtened out myself and went back to my pew... dominicansoul
...there oughta be a law against stealing the Host from the Church...because what happens to these people who try to take Him? A warning? A slap on the hand?
Bennn
Maybe having a member or two from the Swiss Guard, standing on each side of the Eucharistic Minister armed with halberds wouldn't be such a bad idea during Mass. My family are almost all Catholics of the 'lukewarm rite' and my parents used to tell me that my uncle put Jesus in his pocket once. I shudder at the thought of it.

Laudate_Dominum
Wasn't there some guy selling the Eucharist on ebay a while back? I wonder what ended up happening with that.
Bennn
I remember that. It was a Host consecrated by the Pope, and someone decided it would please him to sell God for more than thirty silverlings. I was horrified when I read about it. Jesus saw all these things flashing before His eyes when He was sweating Blood in the Garden of Olives. Ed Normile
About six months after me and my wife married, during the winter months when I had time to take off from work as a contractor, we went to las Vegas for a better late than never honeymoon. The first sunday in a new area and we found a Catholic church to go to, I bought a St Michael the Archangel statue, the one where he has the sword and is standing on the serpent, really cool for the dash of my truck, I was waiting after mass for the priest to bless the statue, this elderly woman, well dressed and looked like anyones granny, was asking the priest to give her a consecrated host to bring to her dying husband at the hospital. The priest refused and at first I was shocked, I was caught up in the story of how they were devout catholics and he was near death and wanted to receive one last time, the priest refused her while offering to follow her to the hospital and give him communion, which seemed like the reasonable thing to do, she refused saying something like, he does not want to be seen in that state by anyone, and as sweet as sugar begged him again for the host. He refused her again and told her he would bring it to him and also give him last rites as he was about to die, he added he could ask him if he wanted confession while he was there. At this point the old woman became more insistent, bordering on pushy, demanding the host be given too her. There were now about a dozen people watching as her voice was raised a bit and she would not take no for an answer, the priest started to offer to come with her again and then she went berserk screaming vulgarities at him and turning to leave purposely knocking over a pedestal with some prayer books on it. Now it was my turn to ask the priest for a blessing on the statue, being 24 years old I thought I would lighten up the situation so I said father I hear you are giving away hosts here, he said, yeah I seen you get one in mass already. He knew I was joking, I asked him what her deal was, he said I do not know, but we have been told about people taking the consecrated host for blasphemous ritual purposes, and this woman and her story did not set right with me. This was 24 years ago. ed
