Hassan And Sexual Harassment

On the way to my dorm is a basketball. The court is full of wanna be hood preppy kids playing basketball.

A female friend of mine walked by their and was made to feel very uncomfortable by the things being said. She's a Christian and some lewd things were yelled at her as she was walking back one day.


She told me as we were walking back together one day, she was obviously uncomfortable walking back alone by there as a result of the incident.


When I heard of this I became very angry



I decided that the best way to address this was to implore these chaps to consider how they would feel being treated in such a way.



And the best way to do this would be for me to yell lewd, derogatory sexual comments at them to see what it felt like, to be treated like a hunk of meat. To be sexually evaluated and harassed while they were simply trying to go about their day






I don't think they liked it.

Hassan-If the group of men yelling lewd remarks were construction workers with tools in their hands, I wouldn't try that technique. Also, if it was a group of REAL hoods, as opposed to preppie wannabe hoods, that technique could easily land you in the hospital.

Your motives were good. It was very chivalrous of you to confront the guys, but, the best technique is usually to ignore guys making remarks. Confronting them often encourages them, because then they know they have succeeded in making the woman (and you) uncomfortable. If they see that their remarks have no effect, they usually give up.

With any luck, your female friend can find an alternate way to walk back to the dorm. And, if she feels that the group of guys is overly offensive, or she feels physically threatened, she should notify the campus police.

Of course. I wasn't made uncomfortable by them, I was really just pissed off. I wouldn't yell sexually lewd comments at a woman or course, but if anything made me uncomfortable it was trying to yell sexually provocative things at another guy. I think I pulled it off well though.

I'm very glad to hear that. However, I still stick to my earlier advice, that the safest, and usually the most effective technique, is to try to avoid them, and if that is not possible, to ignore them.

The next time, they won't be surprised.....

This is true of course. I went to a school in a pretty bad part of town. Chapel Hill North Carolina is not exactly the roughest neighborhood in the world. However your point is good. Even if most of the people there are just preppy kids they are still pretty big and there are a lot of them.
