I wonder why is South Korea so high? Every person in South Korea would have to spend $500 per year on pornography to account for that. The United States buys a lot of porn but still only about $43 per person based on that graph (ha, "only").

Btw, that 'sex' and 'porn' are in the top 5 searches for teens is very sad and disturbing. :sadder:

Pornography is, I think, the logical height of Internet culture. The Internet is an imaginary world where people are divorced from reality...and the same can be said of pornography. It is no wonder that the two imaginary worlds unite into one imaginary world.

Australia is actually a pretty good spender too consider that the population is only around twenty million (prolly around $100 per person).

I wonder if those numbers reflect companies who buy produced pornography for distribution, as well as those who pay the distributor? That would almost double per capita spending.

God Conquers

Some of these don't make sense...

I obviously agree with the tone!

But Marriott? I thought it was a well-known Mormon-owned company. (Although there is the Utah thing...)

Also... Australia has 15 million less people than Canada, yet consumes more porn? I'm not so sure about that...

Yeah. That's what I thought. Then I wondered if it has anything to do with polygamy

Utah's rate for rape, child abuse, and depression is also consistently higher than the national average, and the rate increases each year. Because I had heard that, I wasn't surprised about the porn statistic for that state. :ohno:

Unless he's playing Chess960, in which case he could be literally anywhere on the second rank.
Something tells me the majority of the poor souls suffering with porn addiction really don't care what the guys look like...

That is really weird... I wonder why that could be. The first thing that comes to mind would be radical Mormons who marry multiple underage girls, but I don't think that happens that often.

I was trying to make sense of it too.

Utah is:
95% white.
60% Mormon.
42% of those are "active" Mormons.
Birthrate is 25% higher than national average.
Has the youngest population of any U.S. state.
One of the few states that has more males than females.
Lowest number of abortions per capita.

I was thinking that maybe having more males than females and having the youngest population of any state might account for it. The assumption being and young men are the most likely to be into internet porn.

The results of the study that is the basis of the Utah claim can be found here:

http://people.hbs.edu/bedelman/papers/redlightstates.pdf

Their conclusion seems to be that conservative values and traditional gender roles equals greater likelihood of porn subscriptions. The study itself seems somewhat charged and biased to me though.
