aalpha1989
That's pretty awesome. BTW "Was" is "What" in German, so just pretend that's what you meant to say in the title.

I am a sad panda.
By the way, I fixed my settings. I'd forgotten that shortly before I deleted my account we were still having major creepy spammer issues, and I restricted my PM group so they basically couldn't do anything. jeffpugh
For the age of the book, at least the neums have markings to them. I was just talking yesterday about chant scholarship and restoration and whatnot. You have yourself an interesting treasure there. They may or may not be "accurate", though Whatever that means, anyway. So, anyone wanna go book hunting in TO? lawl. I also heard last night that there are Catholic books hidden away in used book stores... somewhere.

Do you mean that the printing might have been off because of when it was made? I do know that some common chants are slightly different for Franciscans... things like the Te Deum, etc. They even had their own Cantuale at one point. zunshynn
There are a couple of old Libers (1938 and 1954) being auctioned on ebay for around ten dollars... Free shipping too! I'm not going to go for them though. I'm not. Really.
Yes, although usually recto tono, so all on one note, which is how we chanted the divine office at OLAM... if I don't out loud, I usually still kind of chant it that way in my head rather than simply recite it. I know and remember some gregorian chants, but I can't really "figure out" how to chant something. I can formulate a vague idea in my head of what a chant would sound like by looking at the notation, but not well enough to try to do it.

I hope someday in the future I can a) get over my irrational phobia of singing, and b) take a couple workshops in basic chant. There was one just recently in my diocese, but I was too busy to attend. Do you enjoy doing that on your own? Like, do you find it adds something to the whole practice?

I associate the Divine Office so much with chanting that I have a hard time NOT doing so... plus I think chanting it, even just in my head, helps me stay focused. But I definitely think it adds something to it as well... especially now that I'm praying it in Latin, chanting it seems to... I don't know... bring out the words more. There is something about chanting it that really makes me remember that it is literally the Church's prayer. It's not just my prayer... it's letting the Church use my voice to offer her prayer. Of course it still is even when it's simply recited, but chanting really elevates the whole thing.
