Juno Is Not Pro-Life.

Another succumbs to the Hollywood scene. You fit in Ellen.
I am a feminist and I am totally pro-choice, but what's funny is when you say that people assume that you are pro-abortion. I don't love abortion but I want women to be able to choose and I don't want white dudes in an office being able to make laws on things like this. I mean what are we going to do – go back to clothes hangers?

What sort of argument is that? With the clothes hangers. If a woman would get an abortion, against the law, not with a doctor, and murdering someone and get hurt in the process I don't really feel all that sorry for her. It's a bad argument.

And I can understand what she says about pro-abortion, I mean I'm not pro-fornication just because I don't want to make a law against it. But the thing is abortions will happen if you let it, and it not only hurts an innocent human being it infringes on their right to life.

I'm sure she's been thoroughly propogandized by her Hollywood contacts.

Or maybe she was just a liberal to begin with.

Juno isn't exactly a pro-life movie anyway. Diablo Cody is one of the most liberal writers in all of Hollywood.

I don't think being for abortion is about being liberal, but about being morally and spiritually dead.

Not to mention mentally.

I think its comments like this that allow so many people to assume pro-life folks have nothing but contempt for a person who happens to be pro-choice. It makes us seem like we can't be reasoned with. Now, I'm not defending abortion. We shouldn't reason with whether or not abortion is okay, because it's not. But there are many pro-choice people who are coming from a place of concern, too. They don't want the government to have control over what we do with our bodies. I can understand that. What they need to realize, is that the child in the womb is a person, too. That child has rights that need to be acknowledged.

We should respond reasonably on these important matters. If we choose to insult someone for their pro-choice comments, then what do we gain? Nothing. What do they gain? A sense that they're being attacked for their beliefs. Would you ever seek council or comfort from someone who has insulted you for disagreeing with them? No.

We're called to pray for others and speak truthfully and charitably. Not insult people for their stance on an issue. It is very possible to strongly disagree and remain civil. Abortion is the ugliest thing we have on our hands right now, and it can't be afforded to lose the gift of open dialogue on the subject.

Um, my priest preached against this movie awhile ago, and I just watched the video trailer, and I can kind of see why. Fr evidently thought that the movie minimalized the value of life, as on yeah, Juno chose adoption, but she doesn't seem to be totally convinced about the sea monkey inside of her. Fr also went on about the parents reaction to their kid having the homeymoon before the marriage, he felt that they didn't do a good job showing that is really just wasn't the best idea to do it. Did anyone actually go see it? I haven't been to a movie theatre since the second Narnia movie, due to the lack of any good movies being shown in the local theatre.

I worked for the PA Pro-Life Federation for a while, and we had a pamphlet on the fact that the whole "clothes hanger" thing is pure propaganda. Never really happened. Once, maybe. But it wasn't something routinely done by women desperate for an abortion.

I wish I could find it, the research is very hard to deny!

Yeah, I saw it when it was in theaters. We went when it was ending its run in the theaters, so it was kind of empty, but since it was an indie movie I'm not entirely sure if it got lots of screen play regardless. Our theater had about 10 people in there, some 20-somethings like us with their parents. The most I could gather from their response was that the 20-somethings got the humor, the parents didn't, but everyone seemed overall happy with the movie itself.

As far as how the parents respond to their daughter having premarital sex and getting pregnant from it, it's not like they just went, "Whatev." They expressed their shock at her behavior, but let her know that they would be there for her during this pregnancy and finding the right home for the child. Her stepmother was very adamant about hers and the baby's health. Basically, they realized that what's done is done, now all we can do is move forward.

Personally, I like the movie. As far as it being a pro life or choice movie, I really think it's neither here nor there. If I had to choose, I'd say that you could consider it a pro-life movie. She's a teenager who made the decision to carry through with a pregnancy that she initially had no intention of having or wanting. That's a big responsibility to take on, and I don't see how it could be made if one doesn't believe the entity inside them to be worth loving and caring for.

well, the actor may be prochoice, but that doesnt mean the movie has to be.

Tom Cruise may be a nutter, but that doesnt mean Valkyrie or Top Gun are about Scientology.

You know, from her style of speech in the interview, for being 23, she sure talks like she's still about Juno's age.
