I would like to hear about y'all's experiences...where you met them, what was it like going to confession...anything you want to share. :) Thanks!

Mine swears he can read hearts, but he's a big joker and he's likely just messing with me. He did say he prays daily for the gift, though. It would be awesome if he received it--he could probably make more sense of me than I could.

I've met a Syrian Catholic Bishop once who did exorcisms. He heard my confession but I didn't need an exorcism.
I think it must be weird to meet a Priest who can read hearts, like Saint Padre Pio. "I know what you did yesterday..."

Technically speaking every diocese should have an exorcist on hand. :) Most do, although I think most don't really advertise it.
I've been told we have one, but who it is is a secret.

I wonder how a priest trains to be an exorcist or whether he just discovers (somehow) that he has this power. The priest probably trains with an experienced exorcist, but how do they know who to pick to train?

I'm so strange. Other people would want to know whether the priest has ever done any exorcisms and what they were like. I'm worrying about the training required. LOL

I agree...that is a power that must be difficult to discover (the exorcism power, that is). And yes, I have heard of priests who have been able to read hearts, or at least knew people's sins...like Padre Pio!

Any priest can do it. They use the Roman Ritual, and only with the authorization of their bishop. Some are better at it than others, obviously, because of their particular spirituality, but it really has little to do with the priest, and much more to do with the patient and with the will of God.
Training generally involves a sort of apprenticeship under a veteran exorcist, but this isn't strictly necessary.

If you're interested, I can recommend two very good books by the chief exorcist in Rome, and there's a couple others that I haven't read, but have been recommended to me on PM.

God Conquers

Fr. Fernando Suarez CC. I've witnessed many healings and had my heart read once or twice. The other stories, some true, some exaggerated, are even more incredible.

For me, I just didn't have to say what was on my mind that I wanted praying for. He said it first.

He got it wrong once too though haha :P

Is it too personal to ask what he got wrong that one time? LOL

Thank-you for the suggestions, but I'm not sure I'm THAT interested. While I acknowledge the presence of evil in the world, the thought of true evil, such as demonic possession, may be more than I want to hear about in detail. I never saw "The Exorcist" and I avoid horror movies in general. Sometimes, particularly with movies, I have a hard time separating my emotional reaction to the movie from the rational reality that, "It's just a movie." So, to protect myself where I am weak, I avoid horror movies.

It dates back to my teens when I saw the film "Rosemary's Baby." It is a well-made film (and for those who haven't heard of it), it stars Mia Farrow as a young mother who learns she is giving birth to the devil's child. I couldn't sleep for several days afterward, and developed an unhealthy fear of the presence of the devil. (We shouldn't forget that evil truly exists, but it isn't good to develop an obsessive fear of it--particularly when you are a teenage girl.) My strong reaction to the movie wasn't helped by the fact that my mother's name is Rosemary. :->

I read mystery books instead. They acknowledge that evil exists, but the "good guys" always win in the end (unlike reality).

I'm a big fan of The Exorcist, actually. :) From what I understand, it's somewhat sensationalized, but not nearly as much as one might initially think.

Luckily, with possession, the good guys always win, one way or another. ^_^

I am usually unable to watch any scary movies  ...I was sleepless :twitch: after watching both The Ring & The Blair Witch Project...I watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose (I think the boring court scenes helped!), but I really didn't know what to think of it...& Yeah, I'm :offtopic: ...
