Did You Go To Easter Vigil Mass?

I am ahead of most of you time wise, being in Australia, but I just got home after a four hour Pontifical Easter vigil Mass, with a visiting Bishop. He was wearing the white gloves and the lovely hat and there were three priests and more young men than I can remember serving and singing and holding candles and incense, and oh yeah, did I forget to say that it was a Latin Mass?

And we had the bonfire outside and the blessing of the Paschal candle and the procession into the dark church and the lighting of candles, and incensing of everything. We had blessing of the Baptismal waters, and then two Baptisms with Confirmation as well. We had the renewal of Baptismal promises and two Litanies and Mass and then Lauds.

And of course, when the Gloria started, the lights all came on (we were using one side altar light and candles before that) and the organist played and the church bell rang and the little bells all rang and it was so glorious!

And then afterwards I kissed the Bishop's ring and thanked him for coming to our parish.

And I just really feel the spirit of the Risen Lord this Easter so strongly. I just hope that everyone of you had a glorious Easter Mass, whether vigil or daytime. I am going again tomorrow to the 11am Mass, but tonight was just something really really special, and I was wondering who else wanted to talk about how wonderful their vigil Mass was? I just have to wait for you all to catch up now.... :) Praise the Lord! Alleluia! He is Risen!

Wow, I still have a while before our Easter Vigil Mass (starts 8:30pm EST) but I'm definitely going and I'll let y'all know how it was!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Easter Triduum, especially the Easter Vigil! As soon as I could drive a car, I started going to the Holy Thursday Mass, Good Friday service, Easter Vigil, and Sunday Mass myself (my family would go on Sunday, but they weren't too keen on the other ones :( )

I love it! This is the GREATEST FEAST of the Church!!!!!! :D :D :D

This will be the first year in awhile that we haven't done the Vigil. I'm taking a break from the choir, so we will go on Sunday.

This will be my first Easter Vigil spending the entire thing as a Catholic. :) I look forward to being able to be there without worrying I'll screw something up during Confirmation or First Holy Communion!

Happy Easter!! :yahoo: :bounce:

I went to the vigil Mass, novus ordo, it was 1.5 hours long and we had five who were baptized, confirmed you know the whole works. There were three priests and they actually used a bit of incense and the choir even sang Panis Angelicus so Im happy. The fire and blessing of the paschal candle was done inside the church. The singing was wonderful because everyone was really into it plus there was the choir and an organ. Hmmm what else.... I got quite the sprinkling with holy water

Your Easter joy is contagious, nunsense! I am so looking forward to our Easter Vigil here (8pm EST)!

It will be N.O. English, but sure to be quite solemn and beautiful! (I think I'd probably die of joy if I went to an EF Mass! Plus, you all sang LITANIES! Chanting litanies is probably up there with chanting the Divine Office for me -- Sheer joy.)

Once I come home from Vigil, I'm sure I'll be adding to this thread. :woot:

Brother Adam

lol, you sure know how to make a person feel jealous don't you nunsense? :)

I'll be going tonight because Father asked me, but just being in our church is painful during Easter with the hot pink and bright blue flowing fabric and hippy Jesus on the wall in the sanctuary. The wife and family get to go to a beautiful German parish across town.

Jealous. I'm not getting to go to the Easter Vigil this year, since there is no traditional Easter Vigil in my city. Last year I was able to travel to another city to participate in the Easter Vigil in the traditional Roman rite, but, alas, not this year.

Awesome! Glad you get to go to a "trad" parish where you can do EF vigil! The rest of us have to do OF, though it doesn't have to be in English :P

I am! I'm going to a Missa Solemnis. ^_^ I'm actually even shaky I'm so excited. Either that or it's from being sleep-deprived and hungry... :scratchhead: But no matter! :woot:

 I have to work today too... as well as tomorrow. Hopefully we're not too busy because I suspect I'll be somewhat distracted... :topsy:

I'm a little bummed though because I thought there was going to be a baptism, but it turns out that actually took place earlier in the week. :sadwalk:

That would bum me out, too. Especially since the blessing of the holy water lasts twenty-minutes. I want to see someone being baptized after that long baptismal water blessing.
