Apotheoun
It would be nice if at least a few of the states would take their sovereignty seriously enough to secede from the union in the face of the recent unconstitutional actions of the federal government. Saint Therese
That will never happen. The states are like drug addicts- their drug is money from the federal gov't. Also i wonder if some states have it in their consititutions that they cannot secede. (Texas does not.)

It should be interesting.
I have not checked the numbers, but a friend said it doesn't matter much what happens November because the republicans need a super majority to reverse the obamacare bill. They won't have it even if they won every congressional race this November. A super majority is what they'll need to override a veto, and that's what it will take to get the will of the people passed.
Saint Therese
I wasn't referring to reversing the bill specifically. I think its possible that the dems might lose majority in both houses.

It is also unclear what will happen in the court battles against Obamacare, but I remain hopeful that it (especially the individual mandate) will be declared unconstitutional.
The United States is already bankrupt . . . our debt to GDP ratio is now as bad as that of Zimbabwe, and Obamacare insures that things will only get worse. Prior to the passage of Obamacare the federal governments unfunded liabilities sat at 107 trillion dollars, but that figure is likely to be multiplied to three times as much with the government takeover of the health care industry. BG45
At first I thought this was going to be about a Representative by the name of David Obey. Representative Obey is someone I quoted for a paper once on the USA PATRIOT Act in which he said of the Act and of the Constitution, "It's only the Constitution". Still gives me chills years later that someone sworn to uphold the document would say such a thing. Now Representative Hare is giving me the same chills. Ephrem Augustine
We had this same debate after George W. Bush wanted to extend executive powers in the wake of 9 11, and he finishes his term, and we vote to overturn it. Obama pushes a health care bill, that many people on the opposite end of the spectrum accuse of being totalitarian... and its not like we won't ever have another opportunity to vote against it. I do think we need health care reform, even if this is not the kind that I wanted. Hopefully it can help us think more critically of ways to assist those who needlessly suffer and die because of abuses of insurance companies. A lot of old people I know tell me that they have never seen our nation so polarized as it is today, and sometimes I worry that the democratic political process as outlined in the constitution has for a long time been in jeopardy precisely because politicians are already more subservient to personal interests and ideologies than in attempting to cooperate to bring about a better Union.
