dUSt
You say that you were baptised and confirmed... This means that you'd have also participated in the sacraments of confession and the Holy Eucharist. Did you recieve the Eucharist without believing in His Real Presence? If so, why? Did you not have very good teaching regarding this? If you recieved your first communion, and were confirmed, then you basically affirmed that you believed in the teachings of the Church. Did you at the time?
mulls
You say that you were baptised and confirmed... If so, why? Did you not have very good teaching regarding this?
to tell you the truth, i can't remember what i believed. if you had asked me if i was really eating Jesus' flesh, i probably would have said that i'm not sure....i know it's representative of Jesus' body...but the priest also always said "do this in memory of me" when he breaks the bread. so i don't really know. i just did what i knew i was supposed to do....eat the thing, and be thankful for Christ, which i was.
If you recieved your first communion, and were confirmed, then you basically affirmed that you believed in the teachings of the Church. Did you at the time?
i suppose i did. i really had no reason NOT to affirm these things. i'd been catholic my whole life, believed in God and Christ, went to church every sunday. confirmation just seemed like the next logical step....everyone told me this was when i became an "adult" in the church, which was cool, so i went for it. again, i really had no reason not to do these things. dUSt
Okay. Sounds pretty much exactly like me. lol I didn't really care at the time to tell you the truth. I believed the things without really knowing why. I did it because that's what I was suppose to do as a Catholic at that age. Seems like our similarities changed paths after that, I started attending a non-denominational Church which actually lead me to "revert" back to my faith because it forced me to study "reasons" why I believed what I did... Obviously, your studies lead you out of the Church. Interesting.
mulls
yea, it is interesting. actually, for me, i started attending a protestant church out of curiosity (though it was really a set-up by God), gave my life to Him, and left the catholic church in the process. like you, i also wanted to find reasons why i used to believe what i did, which is why i came here. unlike you, my studies strengthened and encouraged my 'new' faith, and has kept me out of the Church....i suppose in the same way that it brought you back to the Church. very interesting indeed. Brother Adam
Here we have two people, totally in love with God, desiring the Truth no matter where it leads them, and they are lead in opposite directions. Interesting.
amarkich
Interesting? Hardly. I think it is very sad. The question I have is, what proof or evidence do you have that your current beliefs are the actual teachings of God and not just something that you think is right or makes you feel good, ect? God bless.
mulls
i have no proof. the evidence is manifested in how God has completely turned my life upside down and inside out, and the lives of those around me as well. simple as that. i walk by faith. and i think your attitude is sad.
it's good of you to apologize, but i don't think the reaction itself was terribly out of line. Keep searching for the Truth and go where it leads you. As long as you search for God, He will reach out to you. I don't think you truly ever left the Church; you were only nominally in it to start off with. Your Protestant faith is better than a minimal Catholic faith. Very interesting indeed.
lol, i personally think that it's a good thing on all counts. you are both obviously strengthening your relationship with God. This can't be bad. I would have prefered for you to have reacted the same way that dust did, but you should seek God with an honest heart. if that led you away from the Church, but still towards God, so be it. Eventually i'm betting it will lead you back, though.

mulls
so how can we reconcile it? i would tell you that the Lord is leading my life. from your perspective, am i fooling myself, or being led my something else, or is it possible that i'm actually where i need to be? CatholicCrusader
so what does everyone think about this, other than the fact that we all agree it's interesting?
I would have prefered for you to have reacted the same way that dust did, but you should seek God with an honest heart. if that led you away from the Church, but still towards God, so be it
This is not true. God does not call anyone from the Church. By leaving the Church you rejected God and His ONLY Church. God bless.
Justified Saint
mulls, Don't people of every religion say that God is leading their life? What would you say to them?
