DesiringMore
Of course there were many things but two things that were major for me, the UNITY and the EUCHARIST
HS_Dad
1) The Unity the Christ prays for in John 17 exists through time and space in Catholicism.... (I have some interest in working in some sort of ecumenical capacity...) 2) The realization that the mass is just heaven brought to earth (see Revelation). 3) Consistency with the historical record of the early church in the bible itself. (They dedicated themselves to prayer, and the breaking of bread, etc.) 4) Realization that the official teaching of the Catholic Church is that the Liturgy of the Word is of the utmost importance as well... (I love feeding on the Word of God.) 5) Since I could sense Christ's "real presence" in my heart through the Holy Spirit after my conversion to Christianity, it seemed logical that Christ could be really present in the Eucharist as well. Dave
What convinced me was learning that the Catholic Church is the Church Jesus Christ founded and that the Bible came from it.
PedroX
HS Dad, Great to see you here! Welcome both to the Phamily, and to The Church. peace...
HS_Dad
For me it was the Pope's statement on evolution. It's very nearly impossible to be a Baptist and believe in evolution, with the literal way they interpret Scripture. I know that both science and religion come from God, and thus cannot contradict each other. Catholicism stands behind this principle in a way that no denominations do.
This was important to me as well... I'm still working out the theological implications. HS_Dad
Mother Mary did lead home...
Without going into specifics.... this was important too... Mary tends to be a huge stumbling block for Protestants... It certainly was for me. Protestants like her, but don't reflect on what it means to "Honor your mother" if you are God incarnate!!! Wow!

Food for thought. Thanks for your observation! MG (still a Protestant) :-)
cmotherofpirl
I think the idea that something has existed for 2000 years, came from something that started 1000 years before that, still exists and flourishes today, speaks to something that only God to start- protect- and continue and bless. KennC
Interesting thread and forum, never knew it was here. Nothing had to "convince me" because I didn't have any issues with the Church. I grew up Protestant and never heard one bad thing about the Catholic Church or Catholics growing up and we had near every Protestant Church in our town. I never knew there were anti-Catholics until I came on the internet a few years ago and I was completely shocked for months. Something had drasticly changed in the Protestant Church of today. What seals me in Gods Church, .. an experience with the Eucharist one early morning Mass. Peace of Christ, Ken
