RonRule
My great grandfather, grandfather, and dad were all preachers. My dad left the American Baptists and started his own non-denominational church, Neighborhood Bible Fellowship about 25 years ago as a result of a growing college campus ministry. The church borrowed many traditions from the Plymouth Brethren movment: weekly and open "breaking of bread" service, plurality of elder leadership, expository preaching, etc. I grew up in this church. Even preached a guest sermon once on alcohol and sobriety. When my wife and I moved to Kansas City last spring, we began attending an Anglican church that left the ECUSA, but is still a part of the Communion. We still go there. sweetpea316
Wow this is an old thread! It's from before my time, so I guess I'll answer now. Yeah, I've grown up Lutheran. I still am technically...who knows how much longer. I'd rather be Catholic.
tojo
Hi, this is my first post on phatmass. I was raised non-religious and became a Oneness aka "Apostolic" (non-trinitarian) Pentecostal when I was 14, and was baptized in the name of Jesus at 15. When I was 18 I left them for a nondenominational Evangelical Protestant church, and was validly baptized at 19. I entered RCIA last New Year's (very late) and entered the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil Mass this spring. There isn't by chance any other ex-Oneness/ Apostolic Pentecostals that hang around in here (United Pentecostal Church, Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ, etc)? I've never heard of anyothers becoming Catholic, it seems few enough become Trinitarian Protestants......

He said it was popular at Jimmy Swagart Bible College and talks about the informal debates he had on the issue.
Nathan
I was baptized a Presbyterian as a baby, but grew up in a pretty non-religious household. Liberal secular Protestant, I guess you could say -- we celebrated Christmas, but it never had anything to do with Christianity per se. My dad, who apparently used to be quite the fervent Protestant in his day -- he almost became a minister -- now is pretty much an atheist/agnostic: "We're all just a bunch of beaver dam monkey's on a ball of dirt," he said to me recently while dropping me off at my parish for Sunday Mass! My mom, however, believes in Jesus and reads the Bible frequently but doesn't attend any Church -- she doesn't believe that she needs organized Christianity. She is quite pleased that I'm converting to Catholicism, though; she has long told me that I needed faith in my life (I was the classic atheist in my teens and well into my early twenties). That's me.
