Brother Adam
You don't even want to know what we had to pay every paycheck for the 3 months we were on it. In that time we lost our car and was almost evicted waiting to be removed from health insurance.
And don't think that there haven't been lots of cushy ambassadorships offered to House members who will inevitably lose their seats... "Hey, don't worry about that Nov. election. It's not brought up all that often.

Sadly, I will lose even more money when the government charges me a tax penalty for not buying health insurance.
You know, this is one place where the filter really bothers me. When you say you pay croutons, it makes it sound like exactly the opposite of what you mean... 50% of my income and 50% of Jen's income gone but free healthcare (yeah, right) would still kill us. If we got our student loans paid off, then we'd be okay with it, but she could never be a stay at home mom. This bill passes and we'll probably have to move in with her dad...which is nuts because the two of us together make a decent wage for a family just starting out...about 54k/year (before taxes). On an odd and completely irrelevant sidenote, all my mainstream channels just went out. No ABC, NBC, CBS, or Fox. I wonder if Obama's trying to mute out the opposition. Apotheoun
If you are a member of the working poor like me, you best take out any monies that you may have in a saving account, because the IRS will be in charge of confirming on a monthly basis whether or not a person has health insurance, and so it follows that they (i.e., the IRS) will have the power to issue levies against you and even access your bank accounts in order to penalize you if you do not have an approved health plan. Apotheoun
What is truly sad is that Americans once said "Give me liberty or give me death," but now most Americans say instead, "Give me cable TV or I will be unhappy."
Maggyie
I don't think the President is controlling your TV set.... it's the aliens... I'm willing to wait and see what happens. I was mostly worried about abortion being covered but if this report is true - and it seems to be - the status quo will be maintained. My mother has Medicare and it works pretty well for her and the world didn't end when it was shoved through in the 60s. Then again there is a LOT of red tape involved with it and it is hard to understand what benefits she actually has. I think the Pope/the bishops have said that health care is a right, haven't they? Apotheoun
As far as waiting to see what happens is concerned, we are all in that boat, but the new law does empower the IRS to confirm health coverage on a monthly basis, and I do not really want the IRS that involved in my day to day life. I will not buy health insurance mandated by the government.
LivingStone
Do we know what the ramifications of this bill passing in the House in regards to abortion yet? I've been looking for stuff on Catholic News sites but there hasn't been too much helpful so far.
SaintOfVirtue
The Hyde Amendment is not in the Health Care Bill. Its liberal propaganda to try and make the bill seem more appealing to pro-life democrats.
LivingStone
What does that leave us with the specs on the abortion issues with this health care bill being passed this evening by the House?
