Brother Adam
This is based solely on an executive order that can be rescinded at any time. There is no legislation blocking the use of your tax money for abortions.
Norseman82
Ironically, now some of the "pro-choice" crowd might vote against it. As the song goes, strange days indeed......
lost_in_this_world
its an executive order, is it perfect no but at least its something. i dont care for this bill at all except for one stipulation and in one to two years washignton will realize their mistake yet again. obama wont get re elected anyway so that doesnt really matter anymore. what i dont like about the healthcare debates and why i havent watched much of it is that it turned away from being about the people and the country and into a fight for the dems to say they beat the republicans. this being headed by obama and pelosi. i am all for fighting for something you believe in or feel strongly about, that is respectable even if i dont agree with you. but when it turns into "we will pass this bill with or without republican support" i dont like it and one side just wants to show they have the power. i would feel the same way if it were the republicans against the dems as well. Tony
Even if there were no abortions included right now, it gives the liberals have one foot in the door. They won't stop until all abortions are covered. No reform would mean nothing for them to work with
Thy Geekdom Come
Apo, I have to ask...why do you even put up with the crazy low wages and high taxes in California? Why don't you move? Of relatively minor concern: I feel most Catholic insurance companies are about to go under. My insurance (like most diocesan plans) costs $680/month (just the employee portion). I wonder how quickly Catholic employees will switch to Obamacare after all this nonsense.

Even the democratic leadership called this bill a "starter home."
Brother Adam
Part of me wouldn't mind seeing diocesan Catholic insurance plans go under. They are way overpriced and they have a monopoly in their respective dioceses. We can't afford insurance through the diocese and the church can't afford to pay for us to have insurance anyway. It's a lose lose situation though - they will go down at the hands of a greater evil.

Our insurance is expensive and we don't have another option, but it provides great care. Jennie got WAY more than the maximum number of sonograms permitted by most plans and they didn't have any problems with it. Hopefully, we will be able to keep the situation we have right now with our docs. We pay nothing for services with the OB/GYN and pediatrician, simply because we know them on a personal basis. Tony
Didn't obama basically bribe people to vote for the bill? if so, is that legal?
Oh my goodness!!! For me to have a family insurance plan that has a $250 personal deductible and $500 family deductible is $220. Some of the benefits are as follows: 80% of all medical with a maximum pay of $1000 a year after the deductible (meaning a $90,000 operation costs me $1250 maximum) 80% of maternal which is included with medical and would max out at $1000 i believe with 100% of newborn care (first 72 hours) Pays $160 for a new pair of glasses every 2(?) years. Also has an alternative option for a certain $ in contacts a year. Pays for basic check ups up to $350 a year (annual physical etc). There is a separate part that pays for yearly pap smears and mamograms every number of years depending on age... Also has a really solid dental plan but I don't remember it off the top of my head. That is $220 a month for the entire family. If my fiancee also gets a state job, her plan would be an additional $40 a month or something, and that would make it pay for 100% of pretty much everything... Dental, eyecare, and regular check ups would still have regular check up and care limits.
The whole bill is a bribe. Promise something that could never be achieved so those who are gullible and have nothing to lose will support it, while the majority of hard working folks who will be paying for the thing oppose it tooth and nail, then when the American people are vastly against it, ram it through before the end of the congressional term against the will of your constituents with the promise (more or less) that "they'll understand when their older." The entire thing is based off the premise of the government telling the American people, "you don't know what you want, but we do; you don't know what's good for you, but we do; we're big, you're little; we're smart, you're dumb, so we're just going to insist that this is what you ought to want and we're going to force you to take it."
