Tridenteen
JMJ Fr would like to veil, but we can't since we rent the Church from another parish.
AccountDeleted
I don't know since this is a new parish for me too, Latin Mass, but since we share with a NO Mass (they use the church three times a week) it will be interesting to see. Since we have a Bishop coming to celebrate Holy Week with us, it will be interesting to see how things go. We have special Masses and programs from Spy Wednesday right through Easter Monday. Brother Adam
+JMJ+ no. we have precisely two "Catholic" statues in the main church.
What a co-inky-dink! So do we! They are relegated off to the side in the back. I still cover them though. All of the stained glass is abstract art (what little there is) and the rest is blank brick wall.

Apotheoun
It is pretty much impossible to veil icons in Eastern Churches, but doing that is not really an Eastern custom anyway . . . can you imagine trying to cover all the icons with veils in the Church pictured below: Now that would be a job! MissyP89
I don't think we veil here. I'll be on retreat for Passiontide, and won't be back at my parish until Vigil, so.
TeresaBenedicta
We definitely do at my home parish, but not here at school. :-(
zunshynn
Can someone explain to me why it's a tradition that appeals to you? I just don't really get it. I I was talking about it with someone the other day, and she said that she's always found it distracting when she's seen it done, because she finds herself thinking about the color and the fabric and such and then kind of forgets to meditate on the Passion when the Crucifix isn't showing to draw her attention back to that... And as I mentioned earlier, I don't really think it helps me reflect on the "essentials". I'm just wondering if maybe I'm missing something. BG45
Yep we do, and it really highlights just how many statues we really have that I didn't take notice of!
zunshynn
I hope the priest talks about it in his homily today. It was mentioned in the bulletin, so I'm pretty sure my fraternity parish does it.
I find that people here tend to call things distracting when they don't like a practice. It is meant to be noticeable, but if you find yourself no longer participating in the Mass you have to ask yourself why. It is an ancient practice in the Church that helps unite the worshiping community to the mystery of the Passion and the highest moment of the entire Church year.
