zunshynn
Has anyone read any of Dom Marmion's works? I read a large chunk of Christ the Life of the Soul on a retreat, which was excellent, and I've also read Union with God, his letters of spiritual direction. I was thinking about getting Christ in His Mysteries yesterday, and I've always been interested in reading Christ, the Ideal of the Priest... But I think it would be a good idea to read all of the books I do have already, before I buy anymore. But just out of curiosity, what do you think of him? Do you have a favorite work by him? Cherie
I *LOVE* him, he is an amazing Saint. I read "Christ the Life of the Soul" when I was in the convent, and numerous biographies on him. He was an amazingly brilliant spiritual writer, but had such a wonderful sense of humor -- when he was visiting a group of nuns who sang TERRIBLY, the Mother Superior asked him what he thought of their singing. With typical Irish wit, he replied, "Mother, some sing so as to imitate the angels, and some, to make the demons flee." I love it!
Well, for example... aside from books required for school, I've bought 27 books since I left the monastery... and in those 10 months, you know how many of them I've finished? ZERO. Epic fail, I know. Granted, I had already read ten or eleven of them before I bought them, and I have started a number of them, but still. I'm not very disciplined when it comes to reading anymore. It's sad really, because I've always loved to read, and it's not like I don't have the time to, I just am not very motivated to read anymore. But apparently I am nonetheless motivated to buy them! Saint Therese
Zunshynn, if you buy a book and decide you don't want to read it, you can always send it to me.
