i would love to continue this conversation in another 25 years or so.

So because I have not already raised children my opinion and views on the matter are uneducated and irrelevant? <_<

How else do parents make plans for the education of their children besides educating themselves on the matters and making educated decisions.

As I have a Bachelor's in Theology I think I have a fair grasp of the duties of a parent in the eyes of the Church as I have read most of the documents.

As I am preparing for marriage and discussing children frequently with my fiancee, as well as educated myself on the education of children, including through a Catholic psychology course on the development of children, I believe that I am educated enough to have opinions on the matter.

Will my opinions have changed in 25 years? I am sure they will have. Even when my opinions change, the teachings of the Church as parents being the primary educators and not the sole educators of their children will not change.

Just go and attend the classes. Are they gonna kick you out? Seems crazy. Talk to your pastor about it. I've never heard of a situation like that. Seems unreasonable. If there's a fee that needs to get paid, just make a donation in the same amount instead.

Perhaps I don't fully understand the situation.

....

...yeah, they kicked my daughter out three times and wouldn't let us register "mid-term".
Maybe someone already mentioned this. but this is what I'm thinking, and correct me if I'm wrong, but if the parish allowed you to join mid-term, would you then put her in the same program the next year? Or are their like grade levels etc.? I'm not familiar with how it works, but if this is the case, think about the half a term of information/knowledge that your daughter would be missing if she joined mid-term. Is it not better to wait and get all of the benefits of the program instead of going half-way through and missing something that may be very good?

Dude, that just really stinks. What the heck? These are kids, not university courses. Whoever runs that group needs to give their head a shake. Talk to the pastor and explain the situation! Maybe he'll do it for them!

Are you trying to tell me that every single Catholic in the world has the ability to educate their children on their own to an acceptable standard? That is a ludicrous idea. What about those parents who are dead, in a coma, mentally handicapped, themselves uneducated and ignorant of the faith?

Also, if I misquoted you my apologies.

Parents are the primary educators of their children. Education of the child includes education of the entire personhood of the child, mind and soul. It is the parents responsibility on pain of sin (sins of omission) to educate their children in the faith as best as they can. That does not mean that the responsibility falls on the parents alone. It is primarily the parents responsibility, but it is also the responsibility of the Church (big C).

dead parents inspire and are part of the life of my children,

my mother pass on a couple of years ago and she was and still is a inspiration to my family and me (personalty)... i 'm saying that my parent(s) is and forever will be continued in my children, in our hearts and in our souls. i believe in the father, the son and the holy spirit.

thank you, for all the negative votes.

Ok, but how are dead parents going to explain the new encyclical that just came out?

I'm not saying that the deceased don't play a role in the life of the child, but for obvious reasons they cannot be the sole educators of the children.
