E-Sword

I finally started using this Bible program I've had on my computer for ages, and it's really cool actually.

http://www.e-sword.net/

You can download just about any version of the Bible, but most importantly--seeing as it comes standard with KJV--you can download all of the Catholic variants. It has a built in dictionary which gives you the word in Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew. It has a Bible search function, and a built in notepad which automatically saves any notes to the verse your reading so they pop up when you go to it again. There are a bunch of other bells and whistles, but I haven't figured out how to work them yet. I know it provides maps of the Holy Land as well.

It really reminded me of a Protestant type program (as silly as that sounds) so I kind of ignored it, at least until I had to explain to a prot yesterday the concept of having a single, undivided, Christian, ecclesia. Also, she was saying that the Holy Ghost and Holy spirit are different, so I was able to pull up E-sword and show her wuddup.. Then I downloaded the Douay Rheims. :clapping:

Check it out..

This is pretty sweet, actually. Nice that someone finally came out with a free version of what so many others charge and arm and a leg for. I downloaded the DRV, the LV, the LXX, and the GNT. I wish it had the RSV-CE2 and the NAB.

I use the RSV-CE2, so I really wish they'd hurry and get that on there. There's no doubt that it's one of the most awesomest translations known to man. All in all though, I'm happy with the DRV. What (or how rather) are the LV, LXX and GNT?

I haven't looked up how to do it myself, but I see here someone's managed to use the map function to locate places listed in the Bible.

I forget you're a catechumen. You write like you've been doing theology for years.

Latin Vulgate, Septuagint, and Greek New Testament.

The download is 'temporarily unavaiable.' :(

Go back and try again. It did that with me, too, but only seconds later, it worked.

That's what I want you to think.

Cheers, I hadn't seen those abbreviations before.

Have you got it working yet?

I got it working...its a pretty sweet program. I even downloaded some of the maps and the Ante-Nicene Fathers. I love how they have Ignatius available through a protestant program...I don't understand how you can read Ignatius without coming to terms with Apostilicity and the Real Presence.

It's a shame there aren't any Catholic bible commentaries available. I think Haydock is public domain...

If we could figure out the file format of the author's add-ons and stuff, we might be able to find someone who could convert Haydock...

I bet we could find someone here on Phatmass to do that!

My own desire to have it built into the program aside, it would be awesome to get a Catholic commentary on there for curious protestants to read through...

If you do format the haydock commentary and propose it to the creators of E-sword, they won't reject it. They already have all the other Catholic add-ons! Remember you posted that site a long time ago about how do we fight [stupid] protestantism on the interweb. Well, this is how. Let's do it.. Who's a tech nerd around here? :farmer:
