OraProMe
Yes? No? For better? For worse? Sometimes I feel it's becoming more like a regular, argumentative forum and lost that supportive and personal spirit that characterized it. Just wanted to see if it's just me.. HisChildForever
Everyone seems to fit in their own clique on Phatmass. Sometimes those cliques bash heads.
OraProMe
See I didn't think there were cliques here but maybe I just didn't notice them till recently.
HisChildForever
By clique I really mean - many members of Phatmass, at least the regulars, have certain people they get along real well with. Because of this, or because of a bonding experience (i.e. debating together against another group of people), those members will carry their friendship across threads. Happy_Catholic
I'm essentially a noob, and I have to say, there are a few cliques here. But then, its only human nature, so it doesn't bother me really.
MarieLynn
We all have different views. It would be so boring if we all had the same 'take' on things. Thats what makes us unique! So long as we all appreciate the point of view of others, and don't take offence when we are disagreed with, then I think that phatmass is great and strong. Jesus_lol
"i am agreeing with you because you agreed with me last time" well, i try to be objective about it, so if i agree with you in one thread and go off on ya in another, thats just me disagreeing with you on an issue, not necessarily me disliking you or being bipolar. Maximilianus
Change is unevitable. Along with the ebb and flow of a forum you have the transient nature of Phatmass, which is like the military or a sports team. The current regular posters probably won't be around or posting as frequently in a few years. I'm sure the Phatmassers that have been here since '03 have witnessed a lot of changes. About the cliques... "I don't think they exist"
BarbTherese
I haven't been contributing to Phatmass for very long, but I can recognize at times those posters who seem to be supportive of each other and this is a good thing I think. We call it friendship. Humans are herding creatures and it is natural for those who think alike to tend to be supportive of each other and sometimes to group or partner. Personally, differences of opinions are not concerning to me at all - perhaps the way we can disagree can be of concern. I think that it is healthy that there are different opinions and that they can be discussed openly - providing Charity owns the day. Nothing in life is more consistent than change and learning to adapt to change is an important lesson in life - as well as discerning when change is asked and when it is not. Growth intrinsically is change. There is no growth without change. In our parish bulletin tonight (Saturday Vigil Mass), John Henry Newman is quoted: "To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often".
I don't know about the past 2 months, but over the past 6, definitely. This phorum used to have a much more dynamic and youthful spirit. People used to be more committed to heroic virtue instead of making excuses for themselves. If the Church taught it, Catholics here believed it. Also, when the lame board was mixed with Open Mic, the phorum was much more lively and enjoyable because there were goofy threads to break up all the serious discussion a bit. Sadly, all those things have changed to one degree or another. I suspect that's why many old members no longer contribute. I know my wife hardly ever visits anymore for those reasons. It just isn't the same.

I have no interest in only hanging around people who think exactly like me. There are still a good number here who believe in Catholic teaching and a good number here who need to be catechized. However you feel about phatmass I still think it is the greatest Catholic forum on the face of the earth.
homeschoolmom
Lent is always hard on Phatmass... people get crabby... that's followed by finals and end of school year stuff... people always get CRABBY.... then there's summer... people aren't on as much, things get said... people are always crabby... Then there's back to school... people are busy... they get crabby.... and don't get me started about the Holidays... people are busy, they get crabby....
I don't want PM to be a bunch of people just like me, but I don't think it's as dynamic nor that the Catholics are as devout as they once were (I notice that in myself, too, sadly). I think the phorum was much better when people had a sense of humor and stronger friendships here. I think of Jacob, VeraMaria, Voiciblanche, PhatCatholic, and so many others who just aren't around. We used to stay up during the summer and chat into the we hours of the morning. We used to sing together over paltalk and try to lift one another up in prayer. We used to be silly. Now we're just so darn serious I think we've lost ourselves.
