Weird! I was just on that website at the same time you were!

Ha! Maybe was it to see if they use wedding gowns at investiture ceremonies for your thread, as they seem like the type of community that would? That's why I was there anyway! :))

The Poor Clares canceled their day of discernment. Not enough people were able to come. :( At least it works for me. I wasn't sure I could go anymore!

Thanks for letting us know. I had heard about it and was actually thinking of going too. There was something else I wanted to do that day for the First Saturday though, so it works out for me too. Thanks again!

bumping this thread again as we approach the end of the year .. I've never been on a discernment retreat like one of these, but I've been on a couple "nun runs" :nun: and though we didn't visit anywhere that I felt called, I found them very helpful in discernment anyway .. just to confirm what I already felt called to .. and for a chance to spend some time away and meet other young women discerning :)

Here's a few more details: Come and See Discernment Retreat!

We will especially focus on the love relationship between us and God in our prayer lives (for all of God's awesome children), and then a discussion of what it means for a consecrated person. God is awesome!!!

Have just this moment got to a computer station after the conclusion of the "Vocation Awareness Day" at the Dominican Monastery of the Mother of God in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Here's what happened.
1:00 [pm] The Dominican nuns were on the enclosure side of their....what is that room? Chapter room? Conference room? On the other side of the Grille (which is under construction, not finished) was the Eastern Province Dominican Friar, along with chairs for the attendees. For half an hour we introduced ourselves back and forth through the grille and waited for everybody else to finish arriving.
1:30 Half-hour conference by the friar (sorry nobody printed out his name so I don't remember it) about vocational discernment.
2:00 Half-hour presentation by the cloistered nuns on the Liturgy of the Hours and responding to questions.
2:40 Chapel: half-hour for Rosary and None.
3:15 Back to conference room: half-hour for cookies and soft drinks and chattering with the cloistered nuns some more. Those ladies do LOVE to talk.
4:15 Half-hour conference by the friar about the Order of Preachers and the Dominican charism; also further remarks about living in community under a rule, brides of Christ, how Dominican nuns came from Europe to the United States....
then we said goodbye to all the cloistered nuns before leaving the conference room for the last time.
4:50 Chapel: Vespers, followed by Benediction/Blessed Sacrament, with us in the big main chapel, and the nuns behind their enclosure, out of sight in the conventual chapel; the Dominican friar presided over the Benediction part of course.
End of Vocation [half]day.

Attendees, roughly ten in number. Majority were university/college students active in campus ministry.
One group came from Dartmouth, where the campus ministers are Dominican friars.
One group came from St Anselm's in southern New Hampshire (Benedictine abbey of monks).
