Compare Phatmass And Facebook?

I am a facebook user and now I am starting to build a presence here on phatmass. Are you finding a significant difference, advantage and disadvantage of using one instead of the other?

Facebook is not explicitly Catholic, we are.

Primary difference for me-

Facebook: Gave up for Lent.
Phatmass: Didn't give up for Lent.

I'm not on Facebook. My Spiritual Father thought it not good for me now. However Phatmass is OK with him.

I gave up Facebook for new years actually. When it started out with most of my friends from other religious congregations and ministries that I had been involved in, it was cool. The more high school and elementary school friends that connected with me, the more dumb it got. More useless quizes. More rants from depressed and unstable people leading hopeless broken lives.

Facebook can be a good way to keep connected to people you are physically distant from for school or whatever. But it is really superficial. As for Here? I wouldn't compare. There is a lot more thought provoking discussion, or at least when we start spilling nonsense, you always know its in good spirits.

i would agree with that. i mean there is only about 5,700 members on PM versus millions on facebook. so we only have a theoretical maximum of about 5,695 stupid people on here!

People are mostly anonymous here. Not the same with Facebook.

I come to Phatmass to actively enjoy the company and dialogue of other people who either share my passion for Christ and his Church or respect that I have that passion. I learn a lot from these folks.

And no one on Phatmass links my 'Photos of Me' page to pictures of baby farm animals and bundles of cartoon money. I mean really. I shouldn't have an opinion either way, but I'm really starting to hate Farmville.
