I've always wished for someone to sing John Michael Talbot's song "I Am The Bread Of Life" during Communion. I always loved that song even long before I became Catholic.

Ora et Labora

I just saw him perform in Houston. It wasn't that amazing. :ninja: Don't kill me! :tomato:
Anyway, there are lots of pretty hymns you could do!

Oh Lord I am not Worthy is one of my favorites.

What do you guys think of Taize? I really enjoy them, my chaplain loves them, and given our time constraints, I think it would be a good choice. Lots of harmonies, room for our clarinetist to have her moment, and still traditional in sound.

I thought it might be a little tough for her small campus choir to master a polyphonic ordinary.

We used Taize at the seminary for Adoration. I thought it was very classy.

laetitia crucis

These are some of the hymns I remember scheduling for our Masses during Lent in the convent when I was the liturgist. Hope this is helpful. :smokey:

Opening:
- "Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days"
- "The Glory Of These Forty Days"
- "I Heard The Voice of Jesus Say"
- "For Forty Days and Forty Nights"

Offertory:
- "Pange Lingua"/"Sing, My Tongue, The Savior's Glory"
- "Attende, Domine"/"Draw Near, O Lord, Our God"

Communion:
- "O Lord, I am Not Worthy"
- "Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All"
- "Soul of My Savior"
- "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent" (w/o last verse)
- "What Wondrous Love Is This"

Post-Communion:
- "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent" (w/o last verse)
- ....uh... :scratchhead: ... I always have a difficult time trying to come up with non-chant ones for this. Usually, during this time our priests would do the renewal of our Marian consecration and we'd sing a Marian hymn (usually polyphonic). I suppose some of the "Communion hymns" could go here... :idontknow:

Closing:
- Stabat Mater/"At The Cross Her Station Keeping"
- "All Glory, Laud, and Honor"
- "Lift High The Cross"
- "Hail Redeemer, King Divine"
P.S. -- I'd wait till Easter to throw in the Ave Regina Caelorum... :hehe: However, the 3rd Sunday in Lent is Laetare Sunday, right? That could definitely make things a bit more... joyful. :))

Taizé pieces would be tasteful for communion. Just don't over-do it, and when you work on the piece, work on keeping it tight. It's simple enough to "perfect".

Thanks, guys. I really love Lift High the Cross, so I'm going to pitch that at Father and see what he says. There is at least one Taize piece I'd like to use (Bless the Lord, it's one of the few in English). We'll see what else we can dig out of the hymnals tomorrow.
