Some people make linguistic distinction between 'being gay' and 'actively being gay'. Someone can have homosexual tendencies OR someone who struggles with same-sex attraction can occasionally fall into the sin of homosexuality through indiscretion OR someone can manifestly live a life of wanton indulgence of their same sex attraction through homosexual fornication which gravely scandalizes the public decency and is abhorrent to the Catholic Faith.

The extent to which your statement that "being gay is a big fat sin" is true depends on the definition applied to it. If you are referring to someone who simply has same-sex attraction then I wouldn't say this disorder itself makes them an unrepentant big fat sinner. Nor would I necessarily label someone who struggles with same sex attraction but has fallen into sin and repented but continues to struggle a big fat sinner. I personally would only apply such a stark label to someone who is manifestly indulging their 'gayness.'

But this goes beyond the scope of this thread I think so there's really no point in digging into it too much. I assume you mean "he's engaging in homosexual fornication and that's a big fat sin" and I agree.

Definitely. If I am being a fornicator, I am fornicating. As I understand it, to say someone is Gay is to say they have surrendered to their impulses and partake in a Gay lifestyle. I have urges to fornicate, but I don't fornicate, thus I am not a fornicator. Elton John has homosexual urges and partakes in them, thus he is Gay and not simply a person with a homosexual disposition. But regardless, there's obviously someone lurking around with a hypersensitivity to the issue.

OH, and for the record. It's much worse to be gay than to be a butthat.
