That's it. Like I said, the surreal aspect is big. There's intentionally no backstory. I think the idea is that the protagonist has no memories either, but I can't say that for sure because the protagonist never actually says anything.
Interesting, there's no back-story at all? This game is sounding more interesting simply by being more mysterious.
Nihil Obstat
Interesting, there's no back-story at all? This game is sounding more interesting simply by being more mysterious.
That's exactly it. All you know is that you're in an "Enrichment Centre" which is controlled by the computer GLaDOS. Part of the lack of backstory is that The Orange Box is a collection of a few short full length games (and then one longer full length one), one of which is Portal. Part of the fun of it is its stripped down gameplay. Exceedingly simple. Edited May 25, 2010 by Nihil Obstat

You aren't a teen, I'm a babysitter, you aren't stalking us, and I still don't have a driver's license (which strongly I suspect is because the priests of the FSSP would revolt and march against me every trying to get one...) I like this subphorum
Why would the FSSP revolt against you getting a driver's license? Tridenteen
JMJ Evidently the dudes in the FSSP figure that I am a dangerous person on a Joh Deere, and if offered four wheel drive at 70 mph, I'm lethal. Nihil, you don't wanna see my road rage on my john deere. Do you often talk about my anger issues when I am not present? princessgianna
Driving a diessel Excursion is fun! People totally freak out because it's soo huge compared to their little cars (we can crush 'em like a bug) not to mention the diesel engine intimidates any body within 500 hundred ft. It's awesome when they realize a young teenage girl is driving they REALLY freak out! It is so funny! I love watching their comical expressions.
I learned to drive from my Dad, who [s]was[/s] is far more qualified than the stupid Drivers Ed Teacher the State required me to drive with. Anyways, he basically has forty years of what amounts to Bradley Assault Vehicle driver training and experience (the D.E. teacher has a piece of paper) and High Stress and Intensity Wild-land Vehicle Training (we call it something else but it might get modded here). So, when my dad started teaching me to drive we were in an old, beat up, dodge pick-up truck (stick shift) on a dirt road. My dad was driving and "briefing" me on the basics of driving. We were going about 25mph down this dirt road when he said, "By the time I let you drive on your own you will be able to do this." at the instant he finished that sentence he slammed on the clutch and break, threw it into reverse and started racing back up the dirt road at 25mph. IN REVERSE, without looking over his shoulder, just using his mirrors. I'm in the passenger seat thinking, "Hail Mary, full of grace..." Anyways, long story short, we own a Ford F-250, Diesel V8 Super-Duty. I am a very competent driver thanks to my dad, but being a "teenager" people don't trust me that much. I was working on a friends eagle scout project with him and had to drive myself (in the Ford F-250, Diesel V8 Super-Duty) down a narrow dirt road to get to the work site. It came time to leave and the adults started laughing to themselves, "there's no way he can turn that thing around on this road" Yet low and behold, I started the roaring engine, pulled the parking break, put it in drive, and started moving forward. Fast as a wink I spun the wheel one way as far as possible, then before stopping spun it the other way as far as possible, threw it in reverse and executed a perfect full-tail, three point turn. I waived at the adults while they picked their jaws up off the floor. Thanks Dad. Edited May 29, 2010 by SaintOfVirtue
