Brother Adam

You know, if anything I found myself more angry with the Roman soldiers more than anyone else...

Pope John Paul II apologized on the behalf of Catholics throughout the world for the Inquisition, Holocaust, and the Crusades. You can't undo the past, forgiveness has to happen.

Please note: the Catholic Church is not responsible for the Holocaust any more than the British or Americans are.

Right....

The Vatican had close ties to Hitler and Nazism, profiting greatly from it. They willingly gave Rome's Jews into their hands for money and power. The Vatican's cardinals and bishops entertained Nazi officers. They refused to aid the Jews. They turned a blind eye to the Holocaust.

Of course they aren' responsible...???

I must be missing something here, because true Christians were aiding the Jews (Christian churches, etc) while the Catholics ignored them and profited from delivering them to a certain death.

oh ashley i too learned about all that in school and i am catholic.

what i learned was very biased and very unaccurate. i can easily believe it all, in anything for that matter, but its up to us to learn and read more about it from both sides, what really happened and why.

yes it did happen, but there is so much more than you think.

catholics helped saved many lives during those times, risking their lives for many others.

ashley, what you have is a pre-judgmental picture of catholic church.

i hope you stay and learn, and not be too surprised when you find out many things you thought were true, are in fact, wrong.

God bless you ashley. and welcome to phatmass.

JMJ
4/11 - Easter Sunday

You may be right, I don't know - I do know that St. John Lateran's doors were locked one day during the day for the first time in over a hundred years during World War II by the explicit order of the Pope. Why did this happen? Because the Nazis were rolling through Rome, gathering up as many Jews as they could, and His Holiness had given shelter to 5,000 Jews inside St. John's that he didn't want the Nazis to get.

He also ordered convents and monasteries worldwide to harbor refugee Jews.

Actually its ratehr funny that some estimates have Pope Pius XII saving over a Million Jews i personally think the number is around 700 000 tho. Further to that he opened the vatican for all Jews to stay in (his private quarters) there are documents of him sending orders to Cloisters to open up to save the Jews. AS a cardinal he publicly condemened Hitler. As pope he kept quiet becuz the Nazis would of raided the Church and it would of been conterproductive to saving the Jewish people. Further to that the Head Rabbi of Rome converted to Catholicsm after the halcaust mostly because of the work of the Church in saving his peopl and chose his confirmation name as Pius after the Pope who had saved so many of his people. Before you attack the Church especially on this topic make sure u have done historical accurate research from sources that dont lean either way. Also most people forget there were many priests and religious persons of the Catholic faith who died in Concentration camps as well. Also the Catholics are attributed with saving many many Jews the only other christian group that comes close or perhaps slightly exceeds would of been the Lutherans in the scandinavian Countries.

ok,so let me say something and then we can take it from there.

I am not a catholic.
Ive been baptised as one.
I already posted my hello so just wanted to bring you up to speed.

Now. about the die catholic die remark and the comments on the inquisition

How can you ask, "how can you support that?" uh, exactly how old do you think any one of us is? I wasnt there. AND I will bet my very life that noone here at phatmass was there either. That registers on the "gosh that really pisses me off" list. Its like blaming ALL whites TODAY for slavery.

I dont support the inquisition, if you must know.(or slavery, for that matter)

It happened. People (humans) make mistakes. That is how one grows. Condemn a catholic NOW for something that happened hundreds of years ago, are you nuts?

If I had your mindset then wait...read this...

I am an AMERICAN INDIAN. this is my home. GET OUT!!!!!!!

Yep. That sounds stupid too.
I am also a christian, I can forgive. So you may stay as long as you wish.

Rule #1 at Phatmass.
Practice charity. Or you may leave.

thank you very much and have a wonderful Easter.
