Ashley
In my advanced Europea history class we are studying the Inquisition, and it's heartbreaking. So many innocent people (Jewish families, anyone who was corageous enough to challenge the Catholic Church) killed, brutally murdered. We warched some documentaries too. So much innocent blood. It's devastating. I don't know how you all can support that.
thicke
Hi Ashley! May the peace of Chirst be with you! Welcome to Phatmass! I notice you are posting without any Christian love or charity. Does your denonination or sect not teach to "love one another as I have loved you?" Edited April 10, 2004 by thicke

Ashley
It's a way of saying "You Catholics will pay one day." Charity can be over-done. I think Catholics chose to ignore the Catholic Church's involvement in the Inquisition, Crusades, etc. I think my posts are just stating something you don't want to hear. What have I done to deserver this "payday"? Do you even know anything about me? What sins have I commited? Have I repented them? You seem to know alot more about me than I do since you obviously think I am damned.
Charity can be over-done.
Christian charity can never be overdone! While some people might try to deny what has happened in the past, I don't ignore nor deny anything. Some terrible people have done some terrible things in the name of the Roman Catholic Church and God in the past. This will probably continue to happen as long as there are imperfect people in this world. Does this shake my faith in God or his Church? The answer is no! There's a group of people that go by the name "Al Qaeda" right now that are doing terrible things in the name of God. But this does not mean we should hold it against all Muslims.... As for you post saying something that I don't want to hear, that's not entirely correct either. It's not so much what you are saying I am sad about. It is the way you are saying it that saddens my heart. I will keep you in my prayers. Edited April 10, 2004 by thicke
Crusader_4
Actually on the topic of the inqusition. It really wasnt as bad as it made out to be the Spanish was probably worse becuz it was run by the secular authorities but the the guidelines for torture were used in EXTREME situations. For example i came across something that was interesting in Queen Elizabeth's persecution of Catholics more Catholics died in one year then people being tortured or killed in the Inquisition over 200 years. It's also rather interesting for example, the Anabaptists were not nearly as persecuted by Catholics as they were by Protestants. So essentially there is really no one religious group excused from the violence that occured at this time. Also you had things like the Counterreformation by the Jesuits primarily and others that brought a lot of good out. St. Ignatius of Loyola was actually taken into the Inqusition. The inqusition was brought in because previously to that crusades were being used. however that again is not an excuse just a historical reality. So to say that Catholics should die is like being Anti-Semitic against Jews for killing Jesus...doesnt make any sense is and only causes more hate. Iacobus
Catholics look back and that and see that that was a bad time. We don't go around bragging about them at all. The Church at the time was led by bad men, the Church is infallible NOT THE MEN that form it. These leaders used religious zeal to do bad things. But Jews have a rough history as well. All major religions have gone through a time in which they do not look back upon with favor. The Spanish Insuestion happens to be the one Catholics have. And the Crusades started becasue of a misunderstanding between Rome and Constatinople. Rome was under the impression, they were decived, that the turks were being really bad people. And they were if you wanted to make money in the spice trade. Thus Rome sent an army to free the Christians and help hold the Holy Land. Saddly this army was disorganized and very poor in tarining and got out of control. They did not carry out Rome wishs. It all happened so long ago and was a partices that was changed when the Church was reformed during the Counter reformation. When was the last time a Catholic army invaded the Holy Land? When was the last time we commened a man? JP2 has forgiven those who have wrongly but charged by the Church. So how do these "black" marks reflect on the Catholic Church today? The past 400 to 600 years have seen a bit of change.
