A priest here on campus told me, as a penance, to go to confession to him specifically every day for a month. That's not the most "painful", though... 2.) One priest in Indianapolis (a visitor at Holy Rosary, not Fr. Duvalius) told me to stand cruciform on my tiptoes every day for a week and pray two decades of the Rosary all the while. Actually, one time I was told (not so much as penance, but rather as an aid) to go to Adoration in my school's chapel for 15 min each day for a month. I was sooo upset because I had been assured that it would remain secret when I confessed so I was all mad cause I thought the priest was just making this little loophole... yeah, I never did that penance. Or maybe once a week.. depends on the lie, the age and stuff... That way, the child is reminded every day that he/she has lied, and sooner or later will tell the truth... and realize that 'the truth shall set you free' and no longer be obliged to give out the penance. It took me about 45 minutes to do the whole thing, and it was a very profound and moving experience. This penance was given to me by my Jesuit friend.
