Old_Joe
The council voted for "The Goonies." I removed "Black Hawk Down" because of language and it was meant for guys rather than men and women. I removed "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" because of the castle anthrax and its irreverence. Thy Geekdom Come
Monty Python. I still remember watching with you and Neal and Travis and John. First time I ever saw it. Great movie. Of course, I've never seen the scene you are referring to...always skipped it.
rhetoricfemme
I voted Song of Bernadette, but it was real close with The Goonies.

Old_Joe
Well. Community Night was a successful failure. After Bible study, I went to the store, got all the food and supplies I would need. Then I went back to the Newman center to set up. A couple of guys showed up and helped set up and paint signs for St. Louise Gift & thrift (separate project). They decided to go to Mass while I set up the DVD player, projector, and speakers for the "theater." Unfortunately, the DVD player couldn't read the disc. So I got a portable one that the janitors happened to have on hand, but that didn't work either. I look at the disc and it's pretty well scratched up. So, I run across the street to Blockbuster to see if they have a replacement or can at least fix the scratches, but they don't. However, there's a store nearby that has two copies. So, I'm mildly freaking out at this point because I've haven't finished setting up and community night is suppose to start in 20 min and I don't have the movie which was the whole point of this particular Community Night. So I run to the other store who were supposed to hold the movie for me, which of course they didn't, so I had to go to the shelves to find it. I couldn't find it in comedy, so I looked in family, but it wasn't there either. Turns out it was in comedy, but it wasn't where it was supposed to be it. they take it behind the counter and look at the disc, but it's scratched up as well. so they get the other one which is scratched up too, but not as bad. The cashier takes a few minutes to put on this stuff which is supposed to clean up the scratches. All the while, I just want to take the movie and leave. so finally they finish and I take the movie and race back to Newman. By some miracle, Mass is still going on. I head downstairs and put the disc in the DVD player which still won't read the disc. So I try the portable DVD player, which won't read the disc either. By this time, it's too late to do anything. I taped up a sign that says "Due to technical difficulties, we will not be showing 'The Goonies' unless someone can get the DVD to play." While I finish setting up tables, the two guys come downstairs to help set up and finish the signs. Unbeknownst to me, one of my friends tries his luck with getting the movie to play. He even tried spreading peanut butter on the DVD, but to no avail. so we just had a regular Community Night without the movie. We got a couple of guys to join the Knights.
