The Knights of Columbus Council at the Newman Center here are hosting a Community Night. Since I'm in charge of setting it up, I've decided to do a movie night. I came up with five choices:

1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail - cult classic, plus it has knights
2. Black Hawk Down - great movie for guys, plus the pilot Mike Durant is Catholic which Fr. Matya mentioned in a recent homily
3. Therese - Catholic movie, thought it'd be a good date movie since Valentine's day is around the corner
4. The Song of Bernadette - seeing as the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is Feb. 11th, this was an obvious choice
5. The Goonies - again cult classic, possible date movie, plus Fr. Holdren has mentioned it in his homilies
6. other? :idontknow: you tell me

I chose "other". :)

How about "Keys of the Kingdom"?

That's probably my favorite movie of all time.

However, if I had to choose only from your list, I'd go with Goonies!!

Is your audience all male or mixed? It makes a difference, men and women tend to like different types of movies.

Other: I suggest "The Mission" or "Becket" or "A Man for All Seasons" or "Romero"

I voted Therese, but mainly because I've been wanting to see it for some time and haven't yet. :topsy:

That was one of my other reasons.

Mixed. Community Nights are a social gatherings that take place after 10 PM Mass on Thursdays. They're open for everyone. People sign up at the beginning of the school year to host one. Our council was getting a little stagnant due to lack of activities other than meetings and finals week pancake feeds. To combat this, I signed up the council to host a community night.

Also, please keep in mind that the people watching the movie are mostly students, some of whom have class in the morning. Therefore, I tried to for films that were 2 - 2 1/2 hours long.

They're probably too long, but the Lord of the Rings movies are very Catholic. I didn't notice at first until I re-watched them and was blown away..

The classic rendition of the ten commandments is an awesome movie too, though you may only find it in VHS. (The one with Charleton Heston)

I would not watch the Holy Grail as although it is comedic and highly entertaining, it doesn't show proper reverence towards that which is holy...

I thought Therese was a poor production, so I voted for Song of Bernadette which I was very moved by and impressed with when I watched.

Another good and entertaning and Catholic movie would be Scarlet and the Black.

Ive heard good things about both of these movies but have only watched the trailers. Perfect for Valentine`s Day and might actually keep everyones attention.
