This is a pic I took a couple of years ago of a painting in a side chapel within Notre Dame in Paris. Figured it was fitting to post today:

Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you. - Saint Thomas Aquinas

When I read your OP Laetitia, I read "passes confetti and throws various volumes of the Summa Theologica at everyone"

I was like, wow, that's a little enthusiastic.

I've always had a hard time understanding Aquina's theology, but I love, love, LOVE all of his hymns in honor of the Blessed Sacrament. :)

I was reading the other day that the Pope at the time asked both St. Thomas and St. Bonaventure to compose offices for the feast of Corpus Christi, and when Thomas read his to the pope, Bonaventure was moved to tears and tore his up, he was so certain that Thomas' composition was inspired by God.

Even though Bonaventure in his great humility tore his hymns, I SO wish he didn't -- I would have loved to have been able to hear it, or at least read his lyrics! (I'm sure he'd beat out many contemporary composers any day.) ;)

While I was in the Philippines last summer I saw a statue of our Angelic Doctor -- he had ANGEL WINGS!

I remember staring at him for a while because I'd never seen an image of St. Thomas Aquinas with angel wings, but sure enough... it was him! I saw it at St. Peter's Cathedral in Davao City, but I couldn't find any others like that one in the Cathedral's gift shop. Has anyone else ever seen one like that? (It was BEAUTIFUL!)

I don't celebrate his feast until March 7th. :)

Aww, someone gave you a negative for that comment. :console:

Even though I understand why, since that's the actual day he died... :P However, if you make a post that day celebrating him, I will be sure to celebrate with you!!! :yahoo:

Do you do the same for any other saints?

I celebrate the feasts of saints on whatever day they are commemorated in the liturgical calendar for the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite. St. Thomas' feast is on 7 March in the 1962 calendar. :)

laetitia crucis

Before this glorious day is over, I wanted to post one of my favorite prayers by St. Thomas. He would often recite this prayer before he began his studies, writing, or preaching.

Latin:

CREATOR ineffabilis, qui de thesauris sapientiae tuae tres Angelorum hierarchias designasti et eas super caelum empyreum miro ordine collocasti atque universi partes elegantissime distribuisti: Tu, inquam, qui verus fons luminis et sapientiae diceris ac supereminens principium, infundere digneris super intellectus mei tenebras tuae radium claritatis, duplices, in quibus natus sum, a me removens tenebras, peccatum scilicet et ignorantiam. Tu, qui linguas infantium facis disertas, linguam meam erudias atque in labiis meis gratiam tuae benedictionis infundas. Da mihi intelligendi acumen, retinendi capacitatem, addiscendi modum et facilitatem, interpretandi subtilitatem, loquendi gratiam copiosam. Ingressum instruas, progressum dirigas, egressum compleas. Tu, qui es verus Deus et homo, qui vivis et regnas in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

English:

O INFINITE Creator, who in the riches of Thy wisdom didst appoint three hierarchies of Angels and didst set them in wondrous order over the highest heavens, and who didst apportion the elements of the world most wisely: do Thou, who art in truth the fountain of light and wisdom, deign to shed upon the darkness of my understanding the rays of Thine infinite brightness, and remove far from me the twofold darkness in which I was born, namely, sin and ignorance. Do Thou, who givest speech to the tongues of little children, instruct my tongue and pour into my lips the grace of Thy benediction. Give me keenness of apprehension, capacity for remembering, method and ease in learning, insight-in interpretation, and copious eloquence in speech. Instruct my beginning, direct my progress, and set Thy seal upon the finished work, Thou, who art true God and true Man, who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

I'm confused, why did nunsense celebrate it yesterday and you celebrate it March 7th?

Never mind, I just realized nunsense was referring to the NO, just Australia time. :topsy:

Yeah. I know nunsense goes to the extraordinary form of the Mass, but she's stated in the past that she prays the ordinary form Liturgy of the Hours, which would explain why she celebrated St. Thomas now instead of in March.
