let_go_let_God
Ok, my aunt came up from a southern part of the state and she had told me she found some stuff of her's from her First Communion, one of the items is a brown Carmelite Scapular. I've heard a few things that inorder to wear it I need to be "invested"? What is it? What do I need to do? What does it mean to be "invested"? Also, are there different kinds of scapulars? The only kind I've seen is ones like the one my aunt gave me. That's all the questions I have for now. Untill later, LGLG
Pio Nono
JMJ 4/10 - Holy Saturday let_go_let_God, Yeah, there's a bunch of different types of scapulars, but the Brown Scapular of the Carmelites is the most common today. "Investiture" is a small ceremony where a priest welcomes you into the family of Carmel and places the scapular on your head. Once you've been invested, you never need to be again (i.e., if you buy a new brown scapular, you don't have to be "re-invested"). Any priest is able to perform the investiture ceremony; in fact, you were probably invested at your First Communion if you're older than 30. I was not invested at my First Communion, but some priests at a Youth 2000 retreat performed the investiture ceremony. If you're not sure whether you've been invested or not, just call your parish priest and set up an appointment to perform the ceremony. It takes around three minutes to do. I hope this helps.
