Harlaxton was an 18th century manor house. Ridiculous (in a good way) on the inside. Felt like you were living in a Victorian Age reality.

I spent a summer in Harlaxton College/Manor in England (near the small city of Grantham). It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. We had classes 4 days a week and 3.5day weekends to travel which was perfect because we were in an English speaking country and had a place to keep our stuff and could just take what we needed to spend a weekend in Rome or Paris, etc.

You went to Harlaxton, too? Awesome. I was in the Carriage House, and loved it. I went first semester of my sophomore year. Did they have meet-a-families for the summer term?

Ah, Harlaxton, how I love thee. By train it's only about an hour from London, 3 hours from Edinburgh, about an hour from Cambridge (have to change trains, but it's not bad). Um, Lincoln is close, and so is Belvoir Castle. Good place.

Has anyone here ever done an international exchange program as part of their university career? It's possible for me, in my third or fourth (or fifth, if I do that) years (I'm halfway through first) to study at one of a huge number of universities overseas, including Bocconi in Italy, Manchester Business School, Prague University of Economics, Vienna University of Economics, Singapore Management, Hong Kong University, and about two dozen others.
I'd pay the same tuition as I do now (which is quite the deal) but I'd obviously have to spend a lot in living expenses and flights.

So yea, any experiences that anyone can share? :)

In university I studied abroad for two summers in London, England. Loved it.

I wanted to go to either England or Australia -- however, Australia was quite a bit more expensive, so England won out easily. I added an English minor to my studies just so I could claim financial aid for it and go. Heheheh.... :hehe: It was SO worth it! I mean, really, unless you get some kind of awesome job that requires international travel (or you become a missionary), when are you going to find the time and funds to travel after graduation, right?

Of your list, I would say do a pro/con list for each school. And prioritize your intentions for each school. I mean, if you want to travel abroad simply to go to The Best Economics School in the World, go to that country!!! But if you're dying to live in a certain country and experience their culture more than really going for the education that comes along with it -- go to that country instead! ;) I hope that makes sense.

As for me, I just had an insatiable desire to live in England and Australia. Studying abroad gave me that happy opportunity. :)) (And in all honesty, I did learn a lot! And I even took some flute lessons from the ever-amazing Stephen Preston at the Guildhall. Win-win situation, I'd say!)

If Japan was on the list, I'd be even more interested than I am now, but alas, it is not. Singapore has always been a place I've wanted to go, but then again, so is Italy.

Good thing I have lots of time to think. :)

Another thing to possibly consider is if studying at a particular institution would give you the opportunity to visit other places you want to see. I wanted to visit Germany, Ireland, and Italy (and would have loved to have seen France, Greece, and more of Switzerland and Austria). Studying in England gave me that opportunity since it was pretty easy to get to those places. And I got to see the English countryside, which I love.
