New Eastern Catholic Monastery

Wanted to highlight this 9 minute video describing the beginnings of a new womens monastery of the Eastern Catholic Rite. Sister Celeste, the elder of the two women who are founding the monastery, was a fully professed Sister of St. Basil the Great from Uniontown, PA (my hometown) until given permission recently to begin this undertaking. The younger woman was a former aspirant with Sister Celeste's original community. They came at the request of the local bishop and seem to have quite a bit of community support. Don't know yet if the garb they are wearing here will ultimately become their habit. I thought this was interesting anyway.

Don't know why I can't get the link to work this morning :sadder: .

How's this: Video Link?

One of the Sisters said that "Christ the Bridegroom" is going to be the name of their main monastery -- that's a pretty awesome name!

Are the Uniontown Sisters the same ones that sell that oh so tasty jam every year?

P.S. -- The icons...

Thanks for putting up the link, LC! Don't really know about the jams/jellies, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Those jams/jellies are delicious! (Although I'm not a fan of the "port wine" flavor... :twitch: I tried it multiple times, but I guess it's an acquired taste. Or maybe I just needed a good coagulated milk to eat it with? :eat: ) One of the grandmothers of a Sister I know lives near them and each year while that Sister was in the formation house, she would sent us TONS of homemade jams/jellies! This is where I found my love of blueberry jam. Mmmmm...

That talk is great, Anya! That's for posting it! I particularly appreciate the blue/orange diagram/explanation of the Eastern Church and Western Church. :teach:

It;s probably frivalous, but I hope they end up wearing a really Orthodox lookking habit, like this:

It could be just me (I am into Icons, and really into the Eastern Music) but I think it looks really neat. Real quick (I hope this isn't thread hijacking!) A cousin of mine had a question and I didn't know the answer, are the Serbian Orthodox in Communion?

Alas, the Serbian Orthodox are not in full communion with the Roman Pontiff; however, the Croatian Greek Catholic Church is in full communion with the Holy See.

Alright, now I'm curious...do they have nuns? I think it would be interesting to see what they look like....and what their msuic sounds like! Wonder if they do Polyphonics, like what we had on Good Friday- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C4xmB1QWYk

This is from St. Paisius Serbian Orthodox women's Monastery in safford Arizona. They are under the Serbian Orthodox Church which is not in Communion with the Holy See. The girls not in habit are students at the Home School the nuns have. I have all their choral CDs which are beautiful. Pray for the unity of the Church. Oh, Safford, really? They are only a couple hours away from me. Road trip? I'll bet their monastery is magnificently stunning with all their icons.
