Ash Wednesday
Yes, I have a friend who is a Baptist who took shots at Catholicism and tried to convert me a few times. Nice little pamphlet and everything. At one point we were in the computer lab discussing religion I challenged Martin Luther and the fact that Christians haven't always been sola scriptura but also took authority from tradition. I mean, it was an awful long time that most people didn't know how to read. It's not like they always had a bible to tote around. She just said "I don't agree with your religion." I think that was the end of her attempts to convert me. We used to get Jehovah's Witnesses at our door every year. My dad used to invite them in and offer them a drink or something, much to my mom's dismay.

KnightofChrist
Living in the Bible Belt, always. But I always take it as a complement and use it to try and convert them or correct misunderstandings. After all their trying to save my soul, why not give them the same? Thy Geekdom Come
Plenty of times. Fortunately, I'm not all that drawn to people screaming at me from a street corner about how I'm an evil fornicator whose going to hell because I haven't accepted Jesus Christ and His blood hasn't washed over me. Now, the reason that didn't work may have been the general approach (when did Jesus scream at anyone?) or the fact that their claims were factually untrue (I was a virgin when I got married and I was, in fact, a Christian), which would only lead a person to ignore any other claims they made. I used to make a point of wearing my "I love my German Shepherd: Pope Benedict XVI" shirt around them.

[/quote] Quite true. I've had a few encounters with the JW's, but they tend to just give me literature and let me go on my way, seeing as I usually have my hands full with a child. She explained that the Bible says this is what will happen on Paradise Earth. I was totally open to it so she came over a week later and my mom gave her the old "go away and don't come back" treatment.

Ash Wednesday
Yeah I always thought the paintings in the JW pamphlets were pretty funny. Praise the Lord, there will be moose in paradise! Everyone in Canada and the Pacific Northwest can rest assured. And all the blue jeans and t-shirts have that clothes-line-dried look too. How cool is that! I wonder if the Catholic heaven has that, or is the clothes are rumpled and the moose have mange? Selah
Come to think of it, someone did try to convert me once. At work! This guy came up to order something, and he slipped me a dollar. I was polite and said, "you dropped this." He seemed taken aback, but after he got his food, he said, "please take it...please?" So I took it and...it was a dollar all right, but it had a tract wrapped in it. I was so offended that this man thought he could bribe me to convert to his faith. I put the dollar to good use and threw the tract away.
