How?

LOL... well I knew something was up because two of them kept whispering around me (they were arguing about which one of them would give me the Book of Mormon and which would invite me to a Mormon service. lawl.) Eventually they both gave me the book together and both wrote their testimony in it... which sounded... strangely similar! And I did go to I had a lot of friends that were Mormon so I've gotten in many discussions about it... so they'd just give me subtle hints here and there.

I remember one time I was working on a French project with one of them at her house and I made a comment about how pretty one of the temples was (they had a screensaver with all of the temples) and she seized the opportunity to tell me about how amazing it is to go in the temple (although, she hadn't been through the endowment ceremony... so I don't know what part of the temple she was referring to). And some how we got to talking about contraception, and I explained why I believed artificial contraception was wrong and about what NFP was... her mom overheard me, and I don't think she was very happy. Awkward situation, to say the least.

Guy have nothing to do?[/quote]

:idontknow: He was actually a former baseball player or something, from a CA team, actually, I think, but he lived in Mobile. I don't think I ever met him in person, or if I did I didn't realize it.

I remember having quite a few interesting conversations with people when I attended my secular women's college. One of my friends was a Buddhist/atheist and my roommate and chatted with her. She just wasn't convinced that there was a god. <_< I also had other discussions with an agnostic, my non-theistic suitemate, my sexually active Christmas and Easter Baptist friend who eventually started going to a "cowboy church" about why I am Catholic and a bit about the historical accuracy of the Bible. I talked with one of my dear Protestant friends there about Church teaching regarding contraception and provided her with links to stuff on the Pure Love Club Website in the Q and A section and whatnot. (She thought that a woman was fertile everyday and this got us talking about NFP. I remember using the analogy of someone eating a cake and then puking it up so as to avoid the calories. I had read that in Did Adam and Eve Have Bellybuttons?)

I knew a lot of liberal minded Christians who believed in stuff like it being okay to be sexually active as long as you have "protection" and if you are really serious with each other and that it is okay for people to be openly gay. I remember writing this paper on homosexuality in my english composition class that looked at the issue from a bunch of angles- philosophy, sociology, biology, and from the Church's perspective. I had a bunch of resources- Catholic Answers, the Bible, the Catechism, this pastoral letter by the Holy Father when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, etc. One of my not really practicing Catholic friends read it and said it was interesting and so did my professor who liked it too. It was probably one of the most thorough essays I've ever written. I have the feeling that if one of my peers in particular had read my essay that it would have gotten ugly. (She was an active member of the gay pride alliance on campus, openly gay, loud, and opinionated.) My sophomore year, there was this special event on "Comming Out Day" where the club invited everybody to discuss the issue. I tried to talk with people and tried to be as respectful as possible. I met with plenty of people who diagreed though and I listened to what they had to say. It really made me want to study the theology of the body, particularly in regards to God's design for manhood and womanhood. I got Jason Evert's book Theology of His Body/ Theology of Her Body at Christmas recently. I'm looking forward to reading it. :smokey: One of my liberal Protestant friends, though she disagreed that practicing the gay lifestyle was sinful, was happy that I stressed at that event that even though my religious beliefs were the opposite of hers regarding the issue, that that didn't mean that I or the Church for that matter hated those with same sex attraction and that persecuting those who are this way such as in hate crimes is absolutely unacceptable and that we are called to love everyone. Sincere love is a great tool in evangelization.

I also had this history professor who used to be a Christian, but no longer is and students can tell that he doesn't like God. One of my friends dropped his class because she was tired of him bashing God. He had told us that we need to be "objective" yet he apparentally was the opposite when it came to religion. I even wrote some papers on a small part of St. Augustine's City of God. I was nervous, and fortunately did well on them, though I have the feeling that on one of those papers he might have deducted points from me because he disagreed with me. One of my other friends found information that contradicted what he taught in class and he marked her down on a test. <_<

Come to think about it, I also remember talking with some atheists online (not on phatmass.) That was a horrible experience and I've learned to not engage in debate with snarky, rude, and flat out offensive atheists who think that anyone who believes in God is stupid and hypocritical, and in particular just not to do that on youtube comments. It isn't worth it. Prayer for their hearts of stone works a heck of a lot better. :bigpray: St. Stephen prayed for his persecutors while he was being murdered and one of them converted big time-St. Paul!

One time when I was a novice these Jehovah's Witness teenage girls gave me a flyer to invite me to their Good Friday or Easter "lesson" or something. I invited them to come to the Passion Service at the Shrine... but I think they were terrified of me. They never looked at my face... one of them kept staring at my cord and the other one just kind of looked past my face. :( I didn't think I was that frightening. :sadwalk: Then they kind of ran away when the other sister I was with came out.

My dear friend's sister is a professional missionary for the Assemblies of God to Central America.

"You're CATHOLIC? Did you know that Jesus died on the cross for you?!"
"Um. Yeah?"
"But do you believe it???"
"I do..."
"Have you accepted Him as your Lo--"
"Jesus is my Lord and Savior, yes."
"Oh. *pause* Okay..."

Then there's my family, but that's another ballgame.

Well, I had a pentecostal roommate for about two years. One of his friends tried to keep me up all night trying to convert me - even extrapolating from a Bible verse that because I wore glasses I was under demonic bondage (on another occasion saying Doctor Who was demonic) - I finally yelled at him to get out because I had to get up in the morning.

(Some of you are probably saying to yourselves "that explains a lot" )

 Protestantism heals imperfect vision?? Sweet deal! All we get is Confession, and everyone knows that that isn't a ton of fun....... <_<

Yet we've also got the sacrament of anointing of the sick...People with glasses are not included in that though.

Good thing my vision is (according to my optometrist for the last few years) better than perfect. Guess I can stay Catholic. :nerd:

I always sorta wished that I had glasses, just for the looks.

I have to say though, I'm really thankful for not actually *needing* them. Just one less thing to carry around and think about.

Interestingly, every single other person in my entire family with any particular genetic closeness has corrective lenses.
