Collectors?

I thought it might be fun to talk about the things we collect. I'll start. Well, books and videos are probably a no brainer for most of us. I also have a yo-yo collection. About a dozen or so, but I haven't bought a new one in awhile. I've been looking for a Tom Kuhn pocket rocket, but haven't found one cheap enough yet. I have a bunch of Casio Baby-G watches. I only buy old used ones, and like to dye the resin, repaint the letters and protector bars, and generally mix and match bezels and lugs between them to make unique color schemes. I try to never spend more than $10 a watch. Half the fun is finding good deals. Anyone with enough money can build any kind of collection they want. The real fun is in the hunt. I also like to haunt thrift stores looking for interesting bead strands that have enough beads for a rosary.

I know a girl who collects "mini" things. for instance, i found a bottle of tabasco sauce half the size of my pinky finger. And yeah, there was real tabasco sauce in the bottle. Thats the kind of stuff she collects.

As for me? maybe underground hip hop preferably from Los Angeles.

I used to collect rocks and seashells, and I had a small collection of coins, not really because I made an effort to collect them, but just because people used to just give them to me.

I also used to collect candles... but yeah... I pretty much stopped all that. I'd rather collect books when I have money to buy them. :woot:

I also have a collection of newspapers.

When I was young, I used to collect old TV guides and comic books but my father threw them all out because he said they were collecting dust (I bet they would be worth a fortune today).

Then when I was an adult I "collected" horses and other animals because I couldn't seem to say no to any rescue and everyone knew it so I ended up with more than anyone should have.

I have always loved to collect books too, but when I started discerning religious life three years ago, everything went. Now I can't say that I collect anything at all. I have three Rosaries but that is mainly because I keep breaking them. :)

I like to get one new Christmas ornament every year. Have done that for years.

I can never get just one. I like the really old ones.

Airline memorabilia, and just general airline 'stuff'.
Inflight magazines, boarding passes, books, odds and ends like timetables, notepads, pens, baggage tags and other things, but my biggest collection is of safety cards - you know, those things in the seatback pocket that you're told to review before your flight, but never do. I've got tons of those, from probably twenty airlines. I think I like those the most because most of the time they incorporate the airline's colours, logo, and usually even a depiction of the aircraft. Plus, they're really cool (IMO) after the airline has changed their colours and/or logo or gone out of business...then it changes from being just part of my collection to being a historical artifact. :)

My mom collects the Seagull pewter ornaments. :) Unfortunately they were bought by a Chinese company that decided to stop producing them.

True story! :)

I collect first edition books. The older the better. My MIL just got me an first edition autographed copy of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, by Mark Haddon, as well as a first edition copy of A Moveable Feast, which is basically Ernest Hemmingway's memoirs. His wife had them published after he passed away. I'm also on a never-ending search for first edition copies of all of Anne Rice's work. Along the same lines, I also collect old periodicals, holiday cards, maps and posters. My favorite is a poster of a public service announcement from the 1940s, which has a paranoid looking old man in a derby demanding a child about to sneeze to, "Wash your hands! And do your bit to protect me!" His derby has, "The public," written on it. This is framed and hands above the toilet in our bathroom.

My dad and I used to collect petoskey stones and other neat looking rocks when I was little, which I've kept over the years. I'm thinking about starting coin collections for my son to have, and I've been wanting to start a stamp collection, too.
