Lounge Daddy
Saw this linked up at Free Talk Live. From the article:
A BRITISH woman on a break in Dubai went to police after being raped - but SHE was arrested for having illegal sex. The 23-year-old Londoner was attacked by a waiter in a hotel toilet after celebrating her engagement to her boyfriend with drinks. But after she admitted boozing and sharing a hotel room with her fiancé, cops in the strict Islamic state arrested her for "illegal drinking" outside licensed premises and having sex outside marriage. HisChildForever
The victim is punished for being raped. How absolutely disgusting. Unfortunately, I am not surprised.
Yet unsympathetic cops immediately quizzed them about breaking the emirate's severe decency rules, which contain elements of Sharia law.
This is why I am not surprised.
Medics were said to have shunned rape case procedures - but made sure they obtained a blood sample from the woman to prove she had been drinking.
Glad to know they have their priorities straight. Mercy me
There have been many cases much like this one where the victim is charged with the crime in Dubai. This is not unusual.

This is Dubai where Sharia is strictly enforced, and therefore, as a foreign national, she is being detained for having been drinking and been the victim of a rape.
We in the West (I am in New Zealand) sometimes have no concept of how life can be , and is, in places such as Dubai. Sharia law is strictly enforced, and Westerners are not exempt. As a nurse who has worked in Hospitals in the Middle East for a period of time, we were warned constantly about the use of alcohol, and modesty of dress was stressed most rigidly for when we left the compound. What is acceptable in Westernised countries, sure does not apply in most Muslim countries, and we were forever on our guard not to antagonise the religious police whose presence was ever constant on the streets. Noel's angel
Apparently, they have now told her that if she forgets about pursuing rape charges and gets married to her fiance immediately, they will consider letting her go free.

It would be morally acceptable for her country to enter by force of arms and remove her from the country, if the country will not release her to them peacefully. It is wise to observe the laws, but there is no moral requirement to follow sharia law.
